What are your favorite local roads for a blat?

Again bit further out but plenty of stuff in North Hants around Basingstoke/Alton/Fareham/Hook area.
And north of Reading heading towards Oxford there's the A4074.
Head for this place, the roads in all four directions off the roundabout right outside are good fun: www.foxsdiner.com/

Ssssshhhhhh. That's my playground.
If you go looking there are some corking roads around. Sadly new 40s and 50s are getting introduced...so enjoy 'em whilst you can.
Yes, the road from A41 to Thame is very good, used to live in Bicester so used it a few times.
The road from Shillingford to Thame (through Stadhampton) is excellent and has a couple of bends that are very interesting (A418 I think).
There is also a road that runs from the A34 (come off at Milton Park) through Harwell and then over to Streetly/Pangbourne. Some great bends, crests and straights.
I quite like the A43 blast from the M40 J10 to Northampton too.

A417? I've done Goring to Cirencester and back on that stretch of road - awesome. And there's a nice Fish'n'Chip shop as you come into Cirencester town centre too

Yup, the B3349 from Wellington Country Park to Hook and then from Odiham to Alton has always been a favourite of mine, although it needs to be quite clear for maximum enjoyment!

That's my journey to work, so it's 'tainted' for me. Well at least it is in one direction, funnily enough it's much better in the evening!
It's an decent road when clear, but in the rush hour it's too easy to get stuck behind some day dreaming numpty.

Agree with that ^^
I 'discovered' the B3349 a few months ago and it is now one of my favourites' for a quick local blast. It sucks when theres traffic though as its hard to overtake mostly, but get a clear run and its great.
The B3046 is good fun too - runs from Basingstoke to near Winchester

Which should come with a health warning! The southernmost stretch is known as the 13 bends of death, and statistically is apparently the most dangerous stretch of road in the UK (but as it is not a trunk route, it is not counted in government stats...)I can do the 4074 in the dark with minimal lighting in a car, in a truck, or on a bike (i haven't, but i would be confident to). I had a girlfriend who lived in Goring when i was at college and it was also my preferred route to Uni in Leicester for four years. love that road, and to be honest don't see why it's so dangerous, but i too grew up with it being quoted as the 13 bends...
Good circuit I use is start in Chalfont St Giles, up Nightingales Lane (B4442) towards Little Chalfont then left down Cokes Lane to the A413. Then down the Amersham by pass, up the A355 hill to Beaconsfield and turn left towards Seer Green & Jordans on outskirts of Beaconsfield (Longbottom Lane). Choose anyway you want then to reach the top of Chalfont St Peter and along the top of the Common. Then down Bull Lane to the A40 near the Bull Hotel in Gerrards Cross. Meander along to Tatling End and right just before the bridge over the M25 down to Fulmer. Through Fulmer and swing a right across to Stoke Poges. Carry on towards Farnham Common where you pick up the A355 again and can meander back to the M40 and head home.
Best done on a spring evening in the dry (like last night for example!)

Just back, having done Wellintonia Ave out of Crowthorne, over to Eversley, across Bramshill to B3349 at Mattingly, then South down B3349 through Hook to Alton, A32 out of Alton to A272, West along A272 to New Cheriton. North here on B3046 all the way to Basingstoke.
A great run, mostly on roads that i have driven before except the last leg. This is a fantastic road that is wide in places, narrow in others. A few opportunities to overtake, sweeping bends as well as a couple of very tight ones, and some lovely 30mph villages in which to cool down. I will definately drive that one again, hopefully when there is likely to be less traffic around.
I am in the process of collating the reccommendations from here and other threads in the "Roads" forum, as well as some of my own favourites, and will be trying out some of these roads over the next week or so. The plan being that i will try to work out a "best of" circuit that we can hit early one summer morning.
