Any locals can you shed light on this? Is it temporary for the roundabout roadworks (with extended stretch and resident talivan) or are those poles holding up permanent signs?!

For anyone that doesn't know, we are talking about a high quality dual-carriageway with no side roads and a 30 limit!

That 30 limit is just stupid. I hope it in temporary while the roadworks are on at the roundabout.

So far I have only seen 1 car following the new limit. Everyone else either ignores it and does 60 as they ignored the 50 before, or does 40 half way between the old limit and the new one.

Speed limits like this one destory what little respect the common motorist has left for speed limits. How many people will slow to 30mph through the roadworks having just ignored that limit for 1/2 a mile? This is speed limit is especially dangerous as the cones for the roadworks on the roundabout have been layed out with no regard to the lanes marked on the roundabout. One minute there is 2 lanes on the round about and then they get squeezed into 1 over about 75 meters with no warnings or indication of which lane is to give way.

That is crazy. That is a good, safe fast road, 30mph is mad.

temporary...

Speed Restrictions:-
Effect of Order: To impose a temporary 30mph speed limit along that length of the A33, both north and southbound between the Ringway roundabout and the Crockford Lane roundabout. This will require the temporary suspension of The Hampshire (A33 Basingstoke – Reading Road) (50 Miles Per Hour Speed Limit) Order 2002 insofar as it relates to that length of the A33 as stated above.
2 of 2
To impose a temporary 30mph speed limit along the A33 roundabout including sections of Oakridge Road, Norn Hill, Faraday Road, the A339 eastbound on slip and A339 westbound on slip to the speed limit changes, the A339 westbound offslip from the A339 to the A33 Ringway roundabout, the A339 eastbound offslip from the A339 to the A33 Ringway Roundabout and Popley Way from the A33 Reading Road to the speed limit changes. To allow the Contractor to carry out works to the carriageway, footways, embankments and verges on the A33 in a safe and efficient manner without endangering the general public or site workers.

Duration of Speed Restriction: The speed restriction for the above roads will take effect from 2nd October 2006 for 12 months or until the works are completed, whichever is the sooner.

or in other words - temporary until such a time that we think everyone has forgotten about it being a temporary restriction, at which point we'll make it permanenty and scamera your arse off.

me, as sceptic?! never.
