Not sure this will make much difference, as the Labour council has already steamrollered this through with minimal opportunity for the public to fight the plans...

But there is a 500 strong petition at www.petitiononline.com/LYP1/petition.html to air your views against the IDR plans in Reading...

This should be worth a larf, The IDR I mean. They've managed to kill the south of Reading over the summer with evry single route in having serious raodworks at the same time. Planning? Yep, We'll try that one day.

quite glad I quit living around Reading 5 years ago and last week was my last week working in the pit.Good bloody riddance. The IDR and the traffic system is the worst I have ever encountered.I must admit to going shopping today early with the wife and to go back to where I came from involved an extra 450 yrds of car polluting, due to the crazy road system.Best bet is to generally stay well away....

Dear Reading,

Whilst it is clearly obvious that the good Councillors of Reading have totally lost their minds we wish to extend our sincerest support for your plan to totally wreck the Reading road system In due course it will be impossible, without a two to three mile round trip, to get from one spot to another within Reading by either private car or motorised public transport.

Further we advise you to reduce the number of parking spaces in your town centre car parks to ensure that evil nasty car drivers to not come to your town to shop, spend money and keep your local economy going.

In no way should you create an expressway directly into the heart of your town and provide large quantities of moderately priced parking immediately adjacent to its terminus.

Signed.

The Councillors, Shopkeepers, Retailers and Businesses of Basingstoke and Newbury.

Is there a link to the actual plans?
