Anyone know of someone around the East Berkshire area who can weld/repair exhausts? The one on my Westfield has broken, and it is off the road until I can get one. I am looking for an interim fix to get me back on the road, and then I can get someone like Simsons to build me one.

Pretty much any garage will be able to do basic welding for you I would have thought.

Is it steel or stainless and where is the bit that needs welding (easily accessible hole, split join or inaccessible bit)?

Many garages won't weld exhausts for some reason. Certainly the likes of Kwik Fit won't, although traditional "real" garages (ie. back street variety with real mechanics) will probably do it.

It's got to the point now where some garages actually feel it is worth mentioning in their adverts - "exhaust welding undertaken". Given that, it may be worth doing a search on yell.com or google for "exhaust welding" specifically.

Thanks folks. Having carried the two halves of my exhaust around Stoneleigh I have passed it onto the nice peeps at Simsons to work their magic. Only down side is it will be a couple of weeks!

Fingers crossed.

Often it's pointless because a section will rust away from the inside so there won't be much to weld to and also kwik-fit would obviously rather sell you a new section. I've had garages weld up the front seam on my old tvr s3 that was always the first thing to hit a speed bump a couple of times.

Anyhoo, Fer, what I was getting at was that if the section you wanted welding is mild steel and was a split join in a reasonably accessible place I'd have welded it up for you.

I had several garages refuse to weld a hanging bracket back onto the Corrado's exhaust!

Gave up in the end and resolved to just run it 'till it broke.

However, the next time it was at Dave's for a service he noticed it and just welded it. I only knew about it when he handed the keys back and said "I noticed a bracket had come off your exhaust so took the liberty of welding it back on for you".

Thanks Mark. It was mild steel, and from what I saw up at Stoneleigh at the weekend, a bit of a "design feature" to have this area quenched through puddles.

Fingers crossed I know how to put it all back together when I get the exhaust back.

Dale has the patience of a saint, but even he could not save it.

Still owe him (among others) a beer!
