M3 Unmarked convoy

Minding my own business heading down M3 last night (3rd Sept) from M25 to Bagshot exit in quite heavy traffic at 1800hrs there was an unmarked convoy of about 6 or maybe 8 cars on blues and twos at speed.
Unusually there was no Rangie in the middle of the convoy - all looked like BMW's or Audis with the last one being a Tesla.
Any suggestions as to what and where?

There's a good chippy in Lightwater , opposite direction to Bagshot but the same junction, could have been going there.
