Just posted by a local councillor

I don’t like being the bearer of bad news but there’s an urgent M3 FULL closure planned, as National Highways have notified they intend to fix a safety defect and that needs a full road closure. Fri 9 Feb 8pm to Mon 12 Feb 6am.

I’ve just been informed by our Highways officers that they’ve just been told of this by National Highways (NH). It’s very annoying after all the other works, and the restrictions on the M3.

I don’t yet have a hi-quality version of the map or further details, but felt it was important to let residents know as early as possible, in case you have to change plans (or routes) or allow extra time for journeys. As soon as I get more info, or ??if anything changes (it might be revised) I’ll post an update.

Note HCC Hampshire Highways have no authority over National Highways - National Highways are responsible for major trunk roads and motorways nationally.

National Highways currently say they are planning a full closure of the M3 between J3 and J4 from Friday 9th February commencing 20:00 Hours through to Monday 12 February 06:00 Hours in order to undertake urgent repairs for a safety related problem.

Hampshire are working around coordinating local works where possible by working closely with National Highways and Surrey
CC as it also affects their area, to try to minimise the impact of these essential, safety related works.

During the closure HCC has arranged to temporarily suspend the electricity cabling works on Fleet/Cove Road and to reduce the traffic management for the developer works on the A30 / Blackbushe Road. Although those works are not on the diversion route, the general congestion being caused by the M3 closure is likely to affect a wider area.

HCC and SCC are still looking at other works that they might have to suspend / reschedule.

See below for a map of the closure and diversion route - I’ll post a hi-quality version as soon as I receive one.

I'll also aim to post further details out once NH confirm them, or if dates change.

I do appreciate it’s disconcerting but would request you don’t give me - or HCC - a hard time over this. I’m letting you know asap along with Hampshire highways (and as detailed the plans may change); as you can see both SCC and HCC are working to minimise impact where possible. If you have concerns, the details should be on the National Highways website shortly, and I would kindly request that you direct any comments to them, please.

A bit short notice but it's going to be closed from J4 to J3 this weekend as well.

Just drove from 4 to Sunbury-On-Thames. Lane closures, yes, but still open.

I know, I used it this afternoon! Just the 2 lanes closed as has been the case for weeks.

So much for Surrey Highways updates!
