Proposal to reduce the A30 to from NSL to 40mph
Discussion
Saw a sign today on the A30 between Egham and Virginia Water in Surrey notifying of a proposal to reduce the speed limit from the current national speed limit which has been in place for at least as long as I have been alive, which is nearly 50 years, to 40mph.
During the day, traffic volumes prevent speeds getting much above 40mph anyway, but at night this is the last "fast" bit of road before I get home and I have enjoyed being able to do 60mph on it for years. I remember that getting anywhere near 60mph on it felt terrifying in my first car, an MGB GT but nowadays in a modern car it feels perfectly safe. It's also he last bit of NSL road that isn't a motorway in the area.
I have made my feelings clear in a strongly worded objection. If you are local and feel the same way, or if you just object to the constant dumbing down of speed limits in general, then please make your feelings known in the very short consultation response form at:

Thanks!

When cars were first being used, somebody had to walk in front of them waving a flag.
I joked to the g/f the other day - given the constant reduction of speed limits everywhere - especially the increasing 20mph zones - I reckon it's only 10-20 years until we're back to that in towns...
