Staying in Fleet for a couple of days next week, we were supposed to be going into London but the train strikes are on the days we’re there. So not going to be able to do that now as I’m not driving into London!
Probably going to go to Windsor castle one day but looking for ideas for the other day. Don’t mind travelling around an hour or so from fleet. Going to the motor show on the saturday so nothing really car related either as I don’t think my daughter would appreciate 2 days of cars!
Any ideas of a day out in that area?

You're about an hour from the coast there, so how about whizzing down the A3 and visiting the Historic Dockyard?

Depending on your daughters age there is Alice Holt Forest with Go Ape. Bird world is nearby and an aircraft museum in Farnborough.

She’s 16 and my lads 12 so also something that could work.

Don’t mind travelling around 1-1.5hrs. Like outdoors, walks, history, culture, etc. Kids are 16 and 12.

If you are looking towards Windsor then Virginia water (lakes and grounds rather than town) are a pleasant place go for a walk, you can also go to Saville Gardens next door. Someone has mentioned Alice Holt, its a forestry commission wood with some nice trails and they have a go Ape. A bigger forest is Swinley Forest between Bagshot and Bracknell, some great walks and its bigger and a bit more wild in parts than Alice Holt with some nice heathland. There is a visitors centre at the Bracknell end where you can hire mountain bikes, they actually have some of the best graded mountain bike trails in the south and there is even a skills centre. Hawley lake is quite close to Fleet and I prefer it to walking Fleet pond, there is even a sandy beach to chill on a nice day. If you don't want to drive as far as the coast there is a natural sandy beach at Frensham pond where you can swim, can be a nice spot. Surely Hills are really nice, some lovely walks and views, leith hill is a good loop and quieter than box Hill. If you like yo have a mooch around town and go for lunch or dinner Guilford is good, Godalming and Farnham are nice too but much smaller. If there is any restaurant types or pubs you are looking for let me know as know quite a few in the area. I wouldn't bother with Farnborough, Fleet, Camberley as they don't really have much.

Good shout but he mentioned avoiding motor related things as going to the motor show, guess Brookland offers a bit more

If you want history or culture there is the Commonwealth war graves at brookwood. Lots of local museums and plenty of military related ones too. The military medicine museum at mytchett is a quirky one.

Not sure they are for the average teenager, although I would have liked them as a teenager being a bit of a geek

Which is, of course, adjacent to the 'Motor Show' so you can use the same car parks etc. (assuming they are free again this year).

For all these things, plus it's free, there's the bizarrely little know Roman city ruins and Amphitheatre at Silchester.

As you are obviously very familiar with the area can you suggest some nice country pubs suitable for a short drive and lunch? We moved to the area 5 years ago but have only just finished revamping our house. Now with that finished and recently retired I'm keen to explore a bit more.
So far we've been going to the Frog & Wicket at Eversley and the Crown & Cushion at MInley! beer

Farnborough isn't great when it comes to eating out but The Crown and Cushion at Minley (as mentioned above ) is good as is The Swan at Ash Vale on the Basingstoke Canal.

On the subject of the Basingstoke Canal, a walk along the tow path is very nice.
