News article - "Wokingham residents protest against noisy car meets"

I am sure all us lot go to the nicer, coffee and car meets in the am, rather than the late night car park meets. The late night meets at B&Q etc, don't appeal and you only have to watch a few of AdamC videos, to understand the problem.

I'm surprised that this made it to the BBC website though. Perhaps it was the Wokingham residents protesting, that was the surprise ?

I noticed that the car park sign says "Free Parking between 06:00pm and 08:00pm"

Yes the problem seems to be that the UK doesn't like car enthusiasts getting together and no one wants it in a carpark near where they live

Contrast that with America where lots of old air fields/large carparks are open to the public and there are events set up and attended by the police to keep car fans happy. Ever seen weeknight drag racing at small dragstrips , run what you brung for a token few $$$

in the UK the air strips, drag racing venues, tracks all are being turned into housing estates or off limits after 5pm.

Meets get moved on from out of town shopping centres so next option is car parks in town or vice versa.

The issue is police and councils rarely ever trying to engage and instead just think ban this ban that is the option.

Something's never change.

I think we did a lot more of it in the 90's than the youth do today.

I think they brought S59's in because 90's car meets.

I'm sort-of with you but what kind of engagement do you think councils or the police are going to have with groups like RCMeets, Mpire etc in this area? No Police or Council in their right minds are ever going to sanction a bunch of lads doing drifting on roundabouts crowded with onlookers, burnouts in carparks, and hours of pop-bang exhaust tttery.

Even IF there was a big area of space, miles from residents, where that kind of stuff could be done without annoying people - the legal and political ramifications of sanctioning this stuff would never let it happen.

The reality is that both sides need to flex a lot. The car guys need to understand that it's probably not acceptable to just 'send it' every weekend at a local deserted trading estate, and the Residents, Police and Council need to actively support positive car shows and events to reward the desired behaviour.

No easy answer though. I was 17 once and was probably doing much the same. Thank God there were no camera phones. laugh
