The roads in Wokingham borough...
Discussion
...are fked. Crowthorne's roads are falling apart, Finch is the same, Woodley too and Wokingham itself. I understand that council budgets are stretched and roads probably don't, and shouldn't, feature very high on the list of priorities but I would have thought that the sheer scale of development going on around the borough should have already resulted in council tax revenues increasing?
Fed up with it.

Im in Three Mile Cross and we had some re-surfacing done due to the potholes and becoming dangerous. I think there some comments on local FB pages about petitioning the council till it gets doneFed up with it.

I have been travelling around Northamptonshire, Hampshire and Surrey in the past couple of weeks and can say they are as bad, seems the same everywhere
Yep. The strategy in my neighbourhood seems to be that the same few roads get periodically re-surfaced (even when they are actually still in good condition). The rest is left to crumble. Very odd.
But, on the plus side, the speed bumps along Crowthorne high street are breaking up nicely. And I can remember the days before they were there.
On a more serious note, our 17 year-old son is learning to drive and I go out with him every Sunday morning. Increasingly, I am asking him to avoid potholes wherever possible.

Totally agree that the roads are a mess but I wonder how many people that moan about it are also reporting potholes regularly? I report pot holes frequently at the moment and they do tend to get repaired, albeit not as promptly as they should. I drove past Frimley Hospital this week and the dual carriageway and the roundabouts around there are a mess so I went to report it and spotted it already had 20+ reports. You'd like to think when a few people have reported an area that they would prioritise sorting it out.
Have often wondered if Waze could evolve so that when people report a pothole on there, it could send a notification directly to the council.

About 2 weeks ago I happened to observe some folk from the council, in a large truck, close half of the A30 in Sunningdale; mid-afternoon on a weekday.
I was curious what they were up to so watched them and it transpired that they were filling in a pothole.
They were pretty quick and all was done in about 30 mins or so.
By pure coincidence that evening when taking the dog out for a walk I happened to cross the A30 at the point where they were working earlier, and saw the pothole they had filled in.
And then also saw another (even bigger) pot hole which they had left, and about 18 inches from the one they had filled in. There is absolutely no way they could have missed it.
2+ weeks later and it's still there (well it was at the weekend anyway)!
I simply cannot comprehend or understand the logic to fill in one pothole and leave another one, right next to it.

The pot holes on the Frimley bypass only got sorted the last time out, a few years back, when they started turning into massive trenches between the lanes that meant you had to either make sure you were in the left, or right, lane and then didn't change lanes until you were driving over the A331 bridge if you wanted to avoid going through one. Based on the current state of play down there, they won't get fixed for ages. Besides the money's being spent instead on replacing all the traffic lights again.Have often wondered if Waze could evolve so that when people report a pothole on there, it could send a notification directly to the council.
I believe it took them a good year to fix the last load of massive potholes, that continued to grow in size, on the FPH roundabout and that was only eventually done because they were doing the road widening on that stretch so it was cheaper to leave it a bit longer and do it at the same time. Of course a year or so later, that roundabout is already pretty scabby / potholed again and requires a number of different lines through it if you want to avoid damage to a wheel, tyre, etc.
Still it could be worse - last year when i drove the back road between Farnborough Airport & Fleet, on the stretch where they're now building a massive housing estate, the pot holes & trenches on that run were massive / deep and have probably been caused by all the construction traffic. If any of the other housing builds around this way are anything to go by, those areas will only get resurfaced (filled) if, or when, the developer agrees a suitable fee with the council to fund it.
