Can anyone recommend someone who would be able to hardwire a dashcam into my 1 series? I know Halfords offer an installation service but given how little they charge I'm a bit wary of letting them loose on the car. I'm in the Woking area but would be happy to travel a bit for someone that does a good job.

It's 2 or 3 wires to connect, you don't need to pay a huge amount. Halfords will be more than upto the job - you don't need a specialist electrician.

Easy DIY as well, then you know it's 100% done right.

I did consider DIY but having watched a YouTube video there appears to be a large amount of trim removal involved as the fuse box is in the boot. I will think about it, but a professional may be the better option.

I used https://www.shield-it.co.uk to fit front and rear cams, they did a good job.

He is an authorised installer for thinkware.
I had a couple of dash cams installed by Sunny.

Thanks, will give them a call.

Although I think Manchester is a bit too far for me.

Thanks, will consider him if no one recommends someone more local.

You don’t go to him, he comes to you. (I’m near Reading.) That was one of the reasons I used this company. He did a nice, tidy job. smile

I used David at Hammond Auto near Guildford (Burpham) for some jobs on my cars (weird headlight issue on a Lotus Elan and faulty towbar on a Land Cruiser). He diagnosed and fixed both in about 35 mins! Very impressive and a really nice guy. He would have done my dashcam too but my wife had nicked that car for the school run! Thoroughly recommended.

He has a base in Burpham but will do mobile if requested (I think prefers not to though).

Didn't realize Will did this work. Used him many times for mechanical stuff and he's top notch!

Highly recommended

Fitted my own dashcam in about 20 minutes (plus about 2hrs of watch YouTube videos) smile
