Just moved to the area from Bracknell and know nothing about the area so looking for some advice. I had a drive around the area on Saturday night, but looking for some recommendations:

Indian Takeaway? Miahs is up the road from us, but seems limited on options?
Chinese? Is there one this side of the M4 or do I need to venture into Whitley?
Chippie? The only one I know of is the one of the Basingstoke Road next to Lidl?
MOT / Local Garage? Montelle Motors or David Hearn Motor Engineers are in walking distance. Any good?

Pubs wise I know the Black Boy in Shinfield, but need to try out the Swan and Farriers Arms.

So far im enjoying the countryside and taking the dog for a walk in the fields.

Cheers. The Volvo needs an MOT so will give Doubles a call.

I'm literally round the corner from you i suspect.

Indian we still end up getting from wokingham as we like Baranda's, Miahs has very mixed reviews but some love it so worth a try. The Six Bells on church lane has recently been revamped and has some great reviews of their indian food as well.

Pubwise the Farriers has a good reputation in terms of pub for locals, i've not eaten there yet. Also try the Elm Tree down Beech Hill (not walking distance from yours though).

This'll sounds a bit like a nimby comments but almost all of the fields and countryside within walking distance are due to be built on over the next few years do definitely enjoy it while you can!

If you're on FB then join the Spencers Wood community page and also the "Spencers Wood Rant" which is more lively and a laugh with some locals on it smile

Cheers for the comments. I'll defo join those pages you suggested.

Didn't realise they had plans to build on all the land. We are renting at the moment but might try and stay around the area when we buy.

I used to live in Spencer’s Wood. Try the George and Dragon pub plus the Cinnamon Tree Indian in Mortimer.

Welcome to the area,

I'm one of the annoying folk who've moved in to the new developments in Spencers Wood.

Not much choice of indians tbh, as the one we used to use in Whitley turned out to be not so good. Will likely be trying out Burghfield Spice and the Six Bells at some point.

Keep an eye out for my somewhat questionable Octavia with a big smiley on the back.

I second the rec to join the FB groups as the rants (often unintentionally I think) are quite funny.

Live in Burghfield Common, so Burghfield Spices is our local. Good range of dishes, and a nice buffet.

Also consider the Cinnamon Tree in Mortimer, near the station.

I'm in Spencers Wood and have used Doubles Garage a couple of times with no issues. Had quite a few meals in Miyahs and delivered from there and we like it. The George and Dragon is really nice to go to and I've heard good things about The Queens Oak in Finchampstead.

Really? Has it changed hands recently?

A friend of mines husband used to be the head chef at the George and Dragon and apparently he has gone to the Queen's Oak

A quick search and yes it changed hands and was refurbished last September, have to visit myself now as I'm only 5 mins away.
The reviews for the previous tenants were terrible!
