Last year we moved house close to Blackwater which is on the Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire borders. I want to find some decent roads where I can do a 50 or 60 mile loop. AT the moment I tend to go west along the A30 past Blackbushe to Hartley Wintney but the A30 isn't that great when you head on out to Basingstoke and I keep thinking I must be able to head south and loop back somehow. Anyone got any good runs they use?

A339 from Basingstoke to Alton. Then on into South Downs National Park on A32. Either carry on to West Meon or head towards Steep/Petersfield. Then you can pick up A272 on to Midhurst etc or keep heading South to the coast.

Probably further than 50miles but I'm sure you'll work something out. Most roads are ok down that way of you get a decent run on them without traffic.

Yep, this is where I go sometimes - when I get to Midhurst I head up to Milford, up the A3 and across to the A31 and up the A331 back to Camberley.

Only problem is that the A339 is mostly 50mph now.

There are a couple of roads near ish to Fleet that I enjoy driving, but generally far too much traffic around. You need to be very lucky, or get up early to get a good run. As mentioned, the best roads are the south downs, and my favourite are those between Petersfield and Chichester, but again best early although the cyclists also like that area and early starts.

Pirbright Bends between Frimley Green and Pirbright. Very twisty, like a roller coaster but fun and exciting.

Just try to avoid getting caught behind one of the many driving school cars that frequent that area since the speed limit drop.

Barely got above 20mph when i drove through there 2 weeks ago frown

Thinking of heading down to Lasham Gliding Club which will take in many of the roads mentioned here and I can get a breakfast / mug of tea there.

See if you can check out the old dispersal points and runways in the heat.

A287 from M3 J5, into N Warnborough & out through Upton Grey, pick up the A/(B?) 3046 to New Alresford. Left to make up a loop taking the west end of the A272 or right to go through Winchester, Stockbridge and back up across country towards Newbury.

Yep, it's a tight and twisty roller coaster road and if you get stuck behind something it is game over so do them early or late in the day if you can.

Have a look on the south coast section

There’s a brekie meet every 3rd Sunday at Alton which involves a drive out first and is always good fun and you get a decent brekie

Bourley Road near Aldershot is another good little road. Only a couple of miles long and again, it needs to be clear as there are few overtaking places but still good.

I remember Bourley Road when it was NSL. 40 limit now and has been for ages. Such a shame! Still go down it, but won't take the pi$$ with the speed..
