Help!

I was joining the M4 at Swindon this evening when a brick (or something of a similar shape and size) got thrown up by the car in front. Unfortunately, I clipped it with my front right hand wheel, which sent in clattering along the bottom of the car and wallop my rear right hand wheel. Immediately, there was a hell of vibration from the rear end so I pulled over onto the hard shoulder expecting to see a flat tyre, but nothing. I checked over everything and all seemed OK, so I gingerly drove on to Membury services with the car shaking quite badly. Once I got there and had a proper look, it became very obvious that there is a big flat spot in the rim that means it needs fixing or replacing urgently.

This couldn't have happened at a worse moment. I'm pressed for time as I travel to Australia for 3 weeks work on Saturday and desperately need the car this week. Does anyone know if:

A: There is a good wheel repairer in the Basingstoke / Newbury area who might be able to fit it in tomorrow
B: BMW garages tend to carry replacement wheels (it's a standard 19" alloy for a 2012 5 Series estate)

https://platinumalloys.com/ are based in Swindon.
I haven't actually used them but they were on my shortlist, after a bit of research, when I was looking to get a set refurbed a couple of years ago.

http://www.threesixtyalloys.co.uk/ are in Reading
I have had experience of them and they produced good work and are used by the local Land Rover dealer.

MyAlloys in Basingstoke may be able to sort you. There is also Threesixty Alloys in Reading. Elite Wheels and Tyres in Reading also do straightening. Last I used the Tyre Barn in Newbury they didn't do wheel straightening.

I know a couple are in Reading, but hopefully that isn't too far for you to go.

Looks Swisstoni beat me to is with Threesixty. I had a set of BMW wheels refurbished there too. They came out excellently.

Alternative solution: Hire a car for the next few days to keep you mobile, and deal with it when you get back. I assume you'll have internet access while you're away, to find somewhere and make a booking.

Thanks folks.

I’ll give MyAllows and 360 a bell in the morning and see if I can get it in as an urgent job!

I am looking at hiring a car and will probably do that in the afternoon if I can’t get it fixed or replaced tomorrow frown

Agree with Dave.

The chance of getting it fixed so fast is almost nil. Hire a car or look on gumtree/facbook for someone selling an alloy.

Wish you luck but these places always seem to be run of their feet.

To close this off, Top Gear Motorsports in Basingstoke were absolute heroes!

I called them at 8am yesterday morning and explained my woe. They advised to bring the car in straight away so they could have a look. Upon inspection, it was obvious the wheel had flat spotted but they were pretty convinced that it was repairable, so I left it with them for the day.

Driving it up to work today, you honestly couldn’t tell the wheel had been repaired. The car drove as smoothly (possibly more so) than before the incident and there was no sign of the repair.

For them to squeeze me in at the last minute, effect an outstanding repair and charge less than £80 all in absolutely staggered me. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again. Thank you, so much guys thumbup

Seems like a good find. Added to my list of places I might need one day.
