Wow. Hot tip. Thanks for the link. Methinks the wife and I might to a Sunday night special there. £150 for two to stay AND dinner thrown in...bargain.

Anyone know what that place just place Highclere on the Andover road is like (little white building), possibly the Vine?

The Vineyard? It's ok but a bit formal with overpriced wines - but still very good.
Prefer the Crab, or a quick nip down to Bray to one of Heston's places...
The Yew Tree is pretty good and has recently been bought by a celebrity chef. I haven't eaten there since then but it wouldn't surprise me if the prices get a bit steep as a result.
Other good places to eat near Newbury are the Bistro Rocque in Kintbury (as mentioned by Kwacker), the Furze Bush at Ball Hill or the Carnarvon Arms in Highclere to name but three.

What about the 'newbury kebab centre' ( yes, it's call that) on bartholemew street?
Seating is a little craamped, service often a tad shoddy, but the food is excellent. The drinks are excellent too. A real fine choice of vintage tango, oak-matured fanta and the frisky, fruity Rio.
What more could a chap want?

Lord Carnarvon. Been spruced up and gets some nice totty in there. Chanel dress and Jimmy Choos last week. Very goood.
The Vineyard is lovely if you like wine, but it is expensive and Sir Peter Michael owns it and I think Classic FM has a lot to answer for
The Fish in Sutton Courtenay (15 miles from Newbury) is nice.
