Came round the bend this afternoon heading northbound and the van was there. Checked the speedo and showed 56-57 (definitely sub-60) on it. Do Surrey Police play by the 10%+2 rule or should I expect a SAC invite?

Also researching seems to suggest there's average speed cameras between Holmwood and Deepdene roundabouts but if there were I didn't spot them? Was following traffic so doing at or below the limit but I'm normally pretty observant of these - is the info out of date?

That speed, I'd be prepared for an offer of a course, I'd imagine you were probably a mile or 2 over what you think, as you'll instinctively come off the gas when you see it, then look down.

I don't think there are average speed cameras there in either direction. Where did you hear this?

It's entirely possible that's not accurate though, hence my query hoping someone local would know.

I usually join that portion of road from A25 / Reigate Hill and I've never noticed them. I know they resurfaced it earlier this year but I haven't noticed any cameras and I drive down there perhaps 3 or 4 times per month from Dorking Roundabout (with the chicken) towards Holmwood and then on up the A24 towards Capel.

I don't know how up to date this map is but theres nothing showing. Although the new average speed cameras near me on the A217 haven't been plotted on that map either.

Brit speedos aren't allowed to under-read, so most manufacturers set them to over-read by a small amount,
for example, when I'm doing speedo 80 mph on the cruise under the many many many cameras
on the M25, GPS says I am doing 76 mph. No trouble doing that speed, and a few are going faster.

You were probably doing 53-54 mph. Technically over by a small margin, but they don't do SAC until faster.
The 10% + 2 rule does apply.

It would be overly harsh to penalise folks going less than 5 mph over such a limit.
