Have recently moved to Sandhurst and will be commuting to White Waltham near Maidenhead. I have Waze and will be exploring various routes but just wondered if anyone does a similar route and can give me a heads up on which route may be best and where to avoid? I am guessing its best to try and stay away from going through Bracknell?

Welcome to Sandhurst.

Not done the commute to Maidenhead for years but I'm not sure there is a best way that won't get snarled up at peak without going massively out of your way. I'd trust waze I think it's normally pretty good at getting me to places and avoiding traffic in that area.

I was commuting from Crowthorne to Maidenhead about 6 months ago. It depends on the time you leave, if you get to the office for about 9:30 then the M4 is usually OK, if you need to be there earlier then I would go via Wokingham (see below).

Go along the Straight Mile towards Twyford, go over the M4 then take the Straight Mile road on the right. Turn Left onto The Street at Sherlock Route follow that road to the end. Turn Right onto the Twyford Road, follow that until you cross the A404, continue along the Twyford Road until just past the Petrol station then turn right along Harvest Hill Road, this will bring you out onto the A308.

Hope that helps and makes sense...

Neil.

I did that route for 6 years every morning and evening from Crowthorne so it's definitely worthwhile checking out as a possible route for you.

Thanks for the replies (and welcome!). I was in Winnersh before and used to go via Hurst, Ruscombe and Waltham St Lawrence, so I know the latter part of the route you suggest well. Just need to work out how to get to the Straight Mile from Sandhurst as a lot of the traffic seems to be along the Foresters Way and Crowthorne Road either side of the Golden Retriever / Lookout roundabout.

I need to get to White Waltham as opposed to central Maidenhead.

I live in Sandhurst and used to work in the Western Industrial Area of Bracknell.

It was often quicker to get there by using the A3095 to Nine Mile Ride (B3430) then Old Wokingham Road and Peacock Lane to get to the A329 to the West of Bracknell. I'd then get onto the London Road (B3408), but sadly I can't help you after that. frown

There are plenty of quiet roads in the last part towards White Waltham though, so I hope you find a good route. thumbup

I can't advise from Crowthorne specifically, but I've been commuting from Fleet to Maidenhead for 3 years, and like any commute London bound, it's all about timing. I cut across to Reading and up the M4, usually around 6:45am and 90% of the time it's average traffic (45 mins door to door). If I left at 8, it's a totally different story no matter what route I take - typically 60-90 mins, or even worse on a wet Monday morning like this week (almost 3 hours...). Go early, whichever route.

I would steer clear of Wokingham until the New Year, It took me 30 mins to go from outside the Redan PH to Evendons lane on Tuesday evening
Also Old Wokinghsam Road at Pinewood Centre has TL roadworks as well
The road adjacent to Broadmoor isnt a barrel of laughs as well
