HS2 - a benefit for the TV
Discussion
I have every sympathy for those living on the proposed routes and the upheaval they will suffer. But if (and it's still a big if) HS2 goes ahead, did you know that every train on the route will stop at Old Oak Common?
Where is Old Oak Common? It's the GWR train yard outside of Paddington. Currently to get to the NW or NE I normally avoid CrossCountry trains from Reading and head in to London, cross to Euston or KX and travel north from there. This could be a handy time saver. I believe eventually trains will travel from HS2 to HS1 and the Continent.
We could be the ones benefiting!

The whole purpose of HS2 is not to shave 15 mins off a trip to Brum or Manchester, it's to take the fast trains off the mainline and free it up for freight and slower services - it's been appalling sold to the people, but that's politicians for you

Well only if we want to go to those destinations by train - I'd much prefer some more North to South motorways! Where is Old Oak Common? It's the GWR train yard outside of Paddington.
