So, we will soon (relatively) be rid of the M3 debacle, but it's ok, Surrey County council have a plan...
They are going to completely redesign the Meadows Roundabout, which is reckoned will cause gridlock for around a year...
Oh goody.

http://www.gethampshire.co.uk/news/local-news/mead...

From the SCC Website:
"Meadows Gyratory Improvements

High levels of congestion on this strategic highway network leads to significant and regular queuing on the A30, A331 and A321 approaches. Improvements to the Meadows Gyratory aim to reduce delays and reduce congestion on this busy gyratory. The scheme proposals address these constraints and capacity issues, improving access to Camberley town centre for all modes of transport.

The Meadows is a major gyratory providing connectivity between the M3 with the A30 and a key access route into Camberley town centre. The improvements are an important component to ensure the future well-being of Camberley and resilience on the A30. The improved Meadows Gyratory will reduce travel time across the junction and reduce circulating traffic. The improvements include the provision of new and improved signal crossings and traffic islands to protect pedestrians and cyclists.

Construction works are planned to begin in January 2018. The scheme construction will be undertaken in stages to ensure continuity of traffic flow across the junction. Surrey CC is working closely with Highways England to minimise impacts to the M3. A Construction Management Plan will be in place to minimise any disruption to travel."

If their estimations, on how long it will take for the work to be completed, are anything like the ones given for the redesign of the A30 / A339 / M3 Junction 6 interchange in Basingstoke then it will take at least twice as long to complete as quoted. Oh well, at least they stopped the original plan which was to start the "Hamburger" redesign in Spring this year after completion of the A331 pavement works. I assume the continued overrun of the M3 works delayed it.

On a side note, I see SCC have been splashing the budget locally repainting loads of white lines on quite a few main / local roads so that they're really nice, bright and shiny. Of course quite a few of those roads are also currently suffering with erosion, deep potholes, crevices, etc, but none of those are being repaired and you can only assume if they're busy repainting the lines, there's no chance of some of those roads being repaired or having the, sometimes crater like, potholes filled in banghead

Great news - bring it on!

I've lived in Sandhurst for the last 6 years, and so far there has always been at least one major road that doesn't work!

A3095 towards Crapnell was hopeless for over a year, exacerbated by the 3 bridges (or 7 lights) roundabout mess-up, then about 3 years of M3 average speed camera and random closure nonsense that my finish before I die!

It would never be any good to have the roads around here working properly, so I can see why there is a need to create more chaos - and the Meadows roundabout is a prime candidate! But then again it is pretty cr*p already - maybe the money should be spent somewhere that currently works OK (assuming there is somewhere that actually does)!

For some reason I don't understand, the road just around the corner from me (Moorlands Road, off Frimley Road in Camberley) was completely resurfaced yesterday. I use that road daily, and I don't remember it being particularly bad - in fact, I don't even remember any potholes or surface irregularities at all - and I could name half a dozen roads which need it MUCH more quite easily. It's not even a main road.

I'm sure there is a good reason, but it seemed a bit of a random choice to me.

It could be that a councillor lives in that road. wink

That may sound cynical, but you are probably right! laugh

I just wish we had a councillor or two in my area.

Don't!

I tried for 2 years to get waitiing restrictions put on part of the only road that accesses my flats, which is often blocked by poor parking. Not all blocked, but just a bit of it , as there is not a chance of getting emergency vehicles to access in an emergency. BFC were fine with it, but it was blocked by a local councillor because the problem would only be "moved to another street".
Oddly, he lived in the next street.

Oh good... even THEY don't know the plan yet rolleyes
Reference number: ME-355510
Location: BLACKWATER VALLEY ROAD, CAMBERLEY

Thank you for your email regarding the work on The Meadows roundabout.

I can confirm the work which is due to take place on the roundabout is still in the detailed design phase. We anticipate the designing will be finished in July, however this is not confirmed.

Once this has happened, and a contractor has been agreed we will then be in a position to be able to communicate plans and share traffic management. To confirm, the roundabout will not be closed, we will be using phased lane closures to minimise disruption.

Once again thank you for contacting us. If you have any further queries or require additional information you may find the following page on our website useful: www.surreycc.gov.uk/highwaysinfo

Kind regards

Laura Barratt

I thought I'd bump this thread as there's an update re these works in the Heath Scene magazine that SCC drop through the door every month or two.

Evidently 66% of people that responded to the public consultation raised serious concerns about the how long the redesign would take and when the timing (off peak or overnight) of the bulk of the work would take place due to the congestion cause by the previous A331 cycle lane works and also by how long those works and that of the M3 overran by.

Surrey County Council said:
The County Council is committed to minimising the impact of construction works and will, whenever possible, work at night and avoid closing lanes during the morning and evening peak periods
Take from that what you will laugh

The more important point however is that the CC have, as a result of the consultation, decided to delay the start of the redesign until Summer 2018, so we've got at least another 8 months clear. However there may still be "pre-construction" works during off peak periods from Spring '18 onwards to prepare for the main work.

Related to the work above, SCC have also outlined their plans for the redesign / improvements for the A30 between the Frimley Road and Knoll Road junctions. Evidently the main redesign will focus on encouraging walking & cycling along the A30 and improve pedestrian safety with a redesign of the traffic priorities at the Frimley Road junction.

Again read into that what you will.

On a side note, related to the previous work on the A331 last year.

Surrey County Council said:
More people than ever at Watchmoor Park are already leaving their cars at home and are now cycling and walking to work, following the opening of the shared A331 pedestrian / cycle lane
It's worth point out that SCC have no stats / figures to confirm how many "more people than ever at Watchmoor Park" actually number however hehe

Based on my experience, they must be invisible people with invisible bicycles! laugh

I'm really not looking forward to those works starting, but if nothing else it may mean that we get a roundabout that doesn't have craters in it!

So, finally it's starting, email received today:
Dear All,

You’ve contacted us in the past or given feedback on the Meadows roundabout improvements. Works are due to begin in the coming weeks, and we’re planning on sending regular e-newsletters to keep people updated throughout the project. If you would like to receive information about these works please subscribe to our mailing list on our Meadows Improvements webpage. At the bottom of the page you’ll find a box where you can enter your email address.

Due to recent GDPR privacy changes, we have updated our privacy notice.

Scheme information
We are aiming to start work to reduce congestion and journey times on the Meadows roundabout at the end of June.

To minimise congestion and delays during the main works, most activity – such as lane closures – will take place at night.

The works are expected to take about one year, and include:

• Creating a new right turn from the A30 in Blackwater so drivers can head on to the A331 southbound towards Frimley and the M3 without using the main roundabout
• Lengthening the queuing lane for drivers approaching on the A331 from Frimley and the M3
• New traffic lights with better timings so drivers can go around the roundabout in less time
• Improving the crossings for pedestrians and cyclists

Thanks for the heads-up. thumbup

It looks like it's time for me to plan some alternative routes, especially with the A30 only having one lane each way over the bridge at Blackwater just now!

Estimated completion time 1 year - where's the Not Sure If Serious meme? hehe

Based on the Basingstoke J6 project, which is essentially pretty much the same sort of design, i'm going to guess it will be about 18 months until it's "completed" - which as we know with the M3 works, may actually be much longer hehegetmecoat

Well based upon the Broadmoor roundabout and the M3 "Smartness" project I'd just move if it was an option - or get ready for many years of misery!

Still I maybe dead by the time it is finished (assuming it ever is)!

So based on past performance we've probably got a couple of weeks before the misery begins!

Quite a few "suits" there, standing around and pointing their fingers & clipboards, around 3.30pm today, alongside some of the contractors.

One or two of them had a bit of a death wish by just walking next to / crossing infront of the traffic on the A331 heading towards the roundabout itself. Obviously too difficult for them to use the, currently still active, pedestrian crossings rolleyes

That isn't exactly encouraging - if they are incompetent as pedestrians I doubt they have any idea about motorised transport! banghead

Well lets hope they don't come into contact with live electrical cables

https://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/at-le...

Or get injested into a Vacuum Excavator

http://www.ppconstructionsafety.com/newsdesk/2015/...

And try not to run over workers with the road sweeper.

http://www.ppconstructionsafety.com/newsdesk/2018/...

I wonder how long the we have to wait to see a statement and a load of Spin to cover up the delays due to this and that half way through the project.
???

Should be done on a 247 basis, work 24hrs 7 days a week until completed.
