So by way of background I go from Sandhurst to Worcester Park at least once a week, usually twice, to help out my 94 year old mother.

I used to use the M3, but for the last year or so it has been the non-motorway as it is generally closed before I get to it!

So coming home tonight around 20.30 it was closed again from J2 to J4a, so I stayed on the A3 (heading for the A31 and A331).

Between Ripley and Guildford on the A3 I caught up with a police X5 travelling in the inside lane at about 65 mph - usual reaction, everyone sh*t themselves and slowed to 69 mph, but didn't change lanes! Graphic popped up in the rear of the police X5 telling people not to hog the middle lane - great idea, even if it didn't seem to work for the tw*t in a white Polo in front of me. laugh

Hopefully they will start giving out some tickets!

It's used a lot, it does take a while for people to understand it means them, but there is also a 'USE CORRECT LANE' Followed by a <<<<< just to get the message across.

Tickets are given out by Surrey for Careless and Inconsiderate driving relating to using the wrong lane.

It's a massive cultural issue. When you stop these drivers they have no concept of lane discipline at all.

The Inconsiderate part is easy to prove, it's just lower down on a long list of things that need dealing with with fewer people to do it.

Shame none was given out on Friday then as far as I could tell! A3 was mostly populated by the clueless, with smatterings of f*ckwits!

That is confirmed by the anecdotes posted on here.
Take their licence away and tell them to take the bus.

idea Alternatively fit James Bond style machine guns to your car and blow the prats out of the way.

Agreed on the policing. See a motorbike copper most mornings filtering in traffic, every day I've seen him he's pulled someone for using phone biggrin
Northbound A3 just before Wisley.

Because he looks through peoples windows as he filters past and then lights them up.

He's right, they are being stopped for being on the phone. There's more than one bike, and the bikes aren't on their own!!

With regards to lane discipline the level of driving standards in this country is now sadly rather shocking. The amount of times I've travelled along the A3 between the Hook Underpass and Cobham and witnessed cars either travelling only in the middle or outside lane with the inside lane completely empty is shocking. Usually the driver has no spatial awareness whatsoever and are in their own world just looking straight ahead!

If only the camera van regularly positioned about 3/4 mile after Hook could record all the lane hoggers too.

Is that on the southbound carriageway?

slightly off topic, but I plan to use the M3, Southbound early hours of Sunday morning.
Thought that, for once in my life, I would plan ahead, so I called Highways.
They don't know, and won't until 10am Friday Morning.
FFS..... what chance do we have if they don't know of a planned motorway closure 2 days before hand?
This is becoming a farce.

I don't buy the excuse of ignorance among these people. In fact if I was a BIB I'd nick them all the harder if they showed that level of stupidity. Why aren't the overhead signs used more as educational tools?

Dependant upon weather and also you cant lay concrete under certain temperature
as it will not conform to the spec.
Plus freezing temps / heavy rain can cause other issues.
Take it as closed unless advised otherwise.

Yes,after it goes 2 to 3 lanes on the long sweep left, there's a raised area for it to lurk on and catch speeders.

Yep be very careful as they almost got me one nice and empty Sunday morning - they are just after the long straight just around the first right hand bend!

the van is regularly at that location - possibly the straightest section of three lanes around - why?

If I was a cynic I might suggest it is because that is therefore where they stand to raise the most revenue! biglaugh
