Heads-Up: M3 Closure J3 (A322) to J2 (M25) 18 to 21 Nov
Discussion
Just received the following message at work regarding the M3 closure:
Bracknell Forest Council have recently been approached by Balfour Beatty (BB), representing Highways England (HE), regarding major works associated with the M3 Junction 4a to 2 ‘Smart Motorway’ scheme which requires the controlled collapse of Woodland Lane Bridge over the M3 within Surrey. The planning and preparation for this has been extensive which is why the official announcement has been delayed until today.
The works will require the M3 to be closed in both directions between junction 3 (A322) to 2 (M25) from 8pm on Friday 18th November to 5:30am on Monday 21st November (if for any reason there is a postponement of this date the following two weekends have been allocated as contingency dates) and during this time there will be several strategic diversion routes in place as the HE endeavour to redirect motorists some distance ahead of the impacted area. One of these diversions, however, is to route traffic through Bracknell via the A322, A329, A329M to meet the M4. The full extent of diversions are shown below but the extent of advance warning signs covers the whole south east and east midlands.

HE will be installing advanced warning Variable Message Signs along key routes, ahead of the closure weekend and all diversions will be extensively signed. Radio announcement are also planned in advance of the closure weekend. It is expected that the A322/A329 corridor will be much busier across the closure weekend. A free recovery service along the key route to enable the prompt dispatch of broken down vehicles and the HE Traffic Officers will be patrolling the A322/A329 corridor to assist where possible.
Edit: Not sure why the upload image isn't working, but click on it and it shows the map.

Thanks for the heads-up OP.
I've had enough misery from the random M3 night closures between J2 and J4a over the last couple of years, but I suppose if a bridge needs to come down there is no other option!
And at least that work isn't particularly related to "down-grading the M3 to a S*it Motorway", or whatever the spin-doctors call it!
And I was planning on going out on 20 November!

Have been using the many local avoidance routes for years when needs must.
Even early morning & late at night I tend to exit M25 and use the back roads to avoid M3
and also when leaving the shire.
Even in the 32 tonner without any issue, just about checking the navi to ensure of the route ahead.

This whole M3 closure thing is really starting to get boring now.
Wanted to get from Twickenham to Lightwater on Friday night, was fine travelling to Twickenham earlier in the evening, but got diverted on to the M25 when I went back the other way.
Luckily, its all running on time, and will be finished in July 2016

Someone's ball bag should be on the chopping block for allowing the contractor to take so much time to carry out the works using a minimal presence of a work force.
But then Balfour Beatty have lost seven of their workers in machine related incidents since 2010
That's an appalling safety record. (fact as I work on some their sites and raised the matter in a safety briefing)
I hope they will hit the whole length of the long weekend closure mob handed and get every contractor working to speed up the programme, working full 24hrs shifts during the closure to get other packages of work done, not just this poxy bridge.
Plenty of flood lighting available so get the F on with it.

Actually it isn't on time at all!Wanted to get from Twickenham to Lightwater on Friday night, was fine travelling to Twickenham earlier in the evening, but got diverted on to the M25 when I went back the other way.

When they began early last year there was a sign showing a proposed completion in Autumn 2016, but that only stayed there a couple of weeks and now they don't tell you - probably because they haven't got a clue!
I'll be amazed if they actually finish at any time before the end of 2017!

Oops!
July 2016 was several months ago
But then in the context of what is happening in this area I tend to ignore dates now!
After all what chance is there of the A331 cycle lane nonsense finishing within 12 weeks of 25 September 2016? Two choices I reckon, Bob Hope or No Hope?

Well maybe you should be a Bracknell Forest councillor then your chauffeur would find a route (at the expense of all the other residents) when required and you would be able to ride your "green" bicycle the rest of the year and still look like a tree-hugger!
Or you could wake up and experience what all the local residents encounter all day, every day - which is a nightmare (at best).
Or you could maybe try getting a proper job that pays around minimum wage and see how much pleasure you may derive from that, with no expense account.
After all a spell in the real world may be educational for you!
Is this aimed at local authority representatives - who knows, but if the boot fits........!
