Horses and Traps on A33
Discussion
You could not make this up....
On the A33 yesterday (Swallowfield bypass) heading to Reading - two horses/traps having some trotting practice on the inside lane whilst two 4x4s towing horseboxes blocked both lanes behind them....
They went all the way from the Wellington roundabout up to the left turn to Beech Hill with a huge queue of traffic behind them.
Called the police who said that it not an uncommon occurrence.....

Often get them around Twyford Berks, went for a pint in the Wee Waif and there was one in the car park with the horse tied to a tree!!.Got stuck in a long tail back on the A4,it was about three of them. All over the road could not care less about all the cars behind trying to overtake.

Very frustrating that the police seem to do nothing about it...
They are allowed to use the road, but when they cause a blockage, by the time we get there, it's all over and they've gone. When we get them in the act, we do deal with them, I've been involved in a few arrests during these racesReminds me of a time I was travelling a long a NSL single carriageway and overtook a slow moving Transit with the typical scrappy cage on the back.
In front was a horse and trap with the horse looking absolutely petrified as cars went flying past it.
Now I'm more than used to horse riders on the road, and treat them with the respect and distance they deserve for their own safety and mine. But there was absolutely no warning that there was a horse trotting infront of this van despite it being there solely for the purpose of escorting them.
Utter ***** some people are.

And even if you do arrest them is there any point because they won't pay any fines because they don't have an address nor any money Does the nag have to be insured and mot'd?
Saw another one of these on the back road twixt Wokingham and Twyford yesterday about 16.15. not even a candle in a red jar on the back and feck all lighting to the front. I think a lot of them reside in the bombsite for domesticated diddycoys along nine mile ride in Crowthorne, near the railway bridge
