I live in Bracknell but went to school in Crowthorne and I know alot of the local schools have had lots of funding increases to help with improvements in the buildings etc but unsure if this is not the same in Manchester. I would presume in all areas some schools are better than others.

Is Wokingham suddenly the education capital of the UK now? I think the types of children together with their upbringing, their parents, the locale and the teachers + syllabus probably has much to do with how well the school comes out, but stats can be interpreted to whatever you want the answer to be. I'll show you a st school in Manchester and a great one in Berkshire to confirm your suspicions, but it doesnt make it true on the whole

I grew up in Wokingham and went to university in Manchester.

The social economic differences between the two areas is vast which means any state school in Manchester is liking to suffer given the 'diverse' set of families they are going to have to service (e.g. recent immigrants, poverty-line). Wokingham is a affluent area with little social challenges and kids will generally come from stable home environments which creates productive school environment.

I'm sure there are better schools in Manchester, but you'll probably need to pay for them.

I went to school in Wokingham; it's not all that, but I turned out ok, I think.

I think the comparison of Wokingham with "Manchester" is a flawed one.

ETA: To be fair, it wasn't really your comparison, it was the OP's.
