I have damp in my maisonette - not sure if it's rising damp or caused by the flat above, but it's definitely there. I want to get someone to look at it but I've read plenty of stories of so called "damp specialists" who will just sell you all they can to make money... Are there any reputable places in the area?

I've heard of getting an independent survey done but as I definitely have damp is that a waste of time?

Cheers.

No, because:

Now all you need is a reputable independant surveyor, but unfortunately I can't help you there.

If you describe the issue, and put up pics from inside (and outside if possible) you might find people on here or the Homes, Gardens and DIY forum may be able to help out.

I have spent a good bit of time looking into this myself and come to the following conclusion.

If the survey is a "free" survey by a big national company, they will give you a long list of things needed costing ££££.

If you pay for the survey (about £350) from a local company, that doesn't even offer remedial work, you will get an honest opinion.

I found a small family owned damp survey company in reading that fitted the second bill, let me know if you want the name and ill rack my brains.
