Hi All,

I'm in the process of building a smoker out of an old steel drum. For the firebox, I'm hoping to use some expanded steel mesh but having trouble locating some. I need non-galvanised, and non-stainless (judging by the £70 a sheet travis perkins want for SS mesh!)

Does anyone have any ideas where I can get some from, or even better, have any offcuts that need offloading?

Cheers!

Have you tried somewhere like B&Q? I bought a decent size sheet a long time ago which I think was placed by their fire guards products. These days you can also get it on ebay.

B&Q have it, but it's the galvanised stuff that is not recommended for use near direct heat. (Something to do with toxic fumes biggrin )

There is stuff on ebay too, but postage is quite expensive - thought it may be cheaper to find somewhere locally. From what I've found when phoning around it's not!

Weld mesh will be cheaper and just as effective.
