Hello all!

Guessing Blackwater still falls under TV&S?

Im currently in Wokingham and we are due to be exchanging on a lovely property in Hawley, Blackwater in a couple of weeks, (fingers crossed) but don’t really know much about the area.

Any locals to/in Blackwater?

Any decent local pubs, restaurants?

Any places to avoid like the plague?

Thanks smile

Blackwater is a bit hit and miss, I lived near Hawley Lane for a couple of years. Just avoid the rail station side and you'll be fine

Just looked and yes that is quite close to us.

We will be on Woodlands Walk off Fernhill Road.

I'm just off fernhill road also
There isn't much in the local vicinity other than small shops and a few ropey pubs but I don't really drink so not really the best to advise on that front, though the new inn on hawley lane is ok for a bite to eat ,
Woodlands walk is quite nice and you have easy access to hawley woods for a walk or bike ride etc, you will have to put up with a few explosions etc from Gibraltar barracks as it's part of the training area but most bangs will be during the day, I work there for my sins
Ps avoid mayfield road area like the plague and your be ok

Quite quiet at the moment until new wiring loom fitted but fingers crossed back in one piece soon.

Avoid the 2 pubs near the station (think one got the lowest ever score on beerintheevening.com) unless you like a fight! Grandma Buggins Kebabs and Burgers, recommended tho.

Welcome to the Ghetto which is Blackwater lol! wink

I have lived here all my life (43 years) so cant be that bad. It could certainly do with modernising, there is nothing much in the centre, I would avoid both the pubs, although the Ely up the road towards Blackbushe is quite nice and does lovely chips.
As previously mentioned Grandma Buggins always used to be decent for a burger, Roccos does awesome pizzas and Lee's fish and Chip shop near D&D tool hire on the A30 does amazing food.

Lambies barber shop just along from Lee's does a decent gents hair cut and the ladies who work in there are really nice and friendly.

I belong to the local neihgbourhood watch and crime is pretty rare in Blackwater.

Just over the bridge you have obviously Marks and Spencers and Next (which has a nice cafe). Personally I avoid Tescos like the plague as I hate the store, it is far too big yet never seems to have anything in stock that I want - quite an achievement really! Not helped by the fact when they made the store bigger, they lost all their warehouse space so they have no room for storage on site now and all has to be transported in.

If you are after a decent Chinese takeaway then Mr Q's in Yateley is fantastic.

And if you like walking/cycling then the woods the other side of Fernhill road which lead to Hawley lake are great. You can also cycle all the way through the woods up to Gibraltar barracks then across the road and have a cycle around the old runway at Blackbushe which is always fun. The cafe there does a nice cooked brekkie as well

Great, Thanks for all the reply's guys.

Shame there doesn't seem to be any decent pubs but no bother, ill be spending a lot of saturday nights with my mates in wokingham.

We are basically IN hawley woods (its an ex MOD building) and ive already been along for a couple of dog walks and checked out the lake etc, that was one of the main appeals of the property.

Glad to hear the crime is low, being so remote i am planning to up the security of the gaff quite a lot.

Hi David,

Nope, still here, but girlfriend now moved in and have accumulated 4 dogs and a cat and new job with anti social hours means time gets eaten up.

WILL make more effort this year to socialize!

Should update that as contract finished frown

Great fun and surreal place to work. Installing servers etc while watching Giraffes being fed or setting up printers in the closed-to-the-great-unwashed bits of the house, certainly more fun than gazing out the window onto a rundown business park in Guildford, as I'm doing now.

Could see the Meerkats from my desk.... (sniff)

Its ok but nothing special tbh. We were there after a hoon on Sunday. Quite average I thought. Plenty of others about though (search for the Deepcut Cafe thread).

Hawley/Blackwater is pretty small so not loads there but you are right next to Camberley which is quite nice, even if it seems to have a dearth of decent pubs. Plenty of TVS bods in the locality though thumbup

Nothing wrong with Frimley Green. But I need to move, can tell you why next time! My move fingers crossed is a bit of a downgrade but at least I still have a garage and a detached one at that smile
