so they widen the motorway to use the hard shoulder and then reduce the speed limit to help reduce pollution. will that really help??
The level of traffic normally controls the speed limit pretty well I find

Seems a waste of money and total PR blunder for the HA.

They're introducing variable speed limits on this stretch anyway, why the need for a blanket limit?

they would be better off raising the speed limit for cars with more than 1 person in it.

Commuting on your own? 60mph for you.
Car sharing? - put your foot down and enjoy, thanks for helping out.

No way, single occupancy means less vehicle weight and therefore lower fuel consumption and less dead polar bears. Clearly those who car share should be forced to drive slower to compensate for their cars emissions.

We could always have a car share lane like they do in a few states in the US. It could then stand empty most of the time just like bus lanes do now. Genius idea, smile

weight of a person wouldn't add more co2 than another whole car

4 adults in a Golf GTi would be far less polluting than 4 separate people in their 1.2 fiestas. Take up less space on the road too. win win win smile

Will it not be absolute carnage where it goes from 4 lanes back to 3?

I assume it will end at junction 2 and the hard shoulder lane will end up merging onto the M25

Im split on this one. Like someone said, at busy times its slow anyway so no action is actually needed really.
It may reduce the number of accidents, in which case maybe it could be good.
