Hello PH!

I've just been looking at this: http://www.brooklandsmembers.co.uk/ and I must say the club membership thing does look tempting. Is anyone here a Brooklands Trust Member? If you are, is it worth it? Is it a friendly sort of place and is there a demographic 'type' that uses the clubhouse bar and attends the events?

I've had a tenuous connection with the museum before in that when I was still in the army, my team and I supported their annual emergency services day. I know its a wonderful museum, I'm just wondering what sort of club it is.

The only reason I ask is that I'm a member of a shooting club that has a fantastic range and practices a great shooting discipline, but I find some of the membership slightly cliquey and unwelcoming.

Maybe its just me.

A good friend of mine is a member.
Keeps his Routemaster Bus there and attends many events including Wings n Wheels

I have met lots of stalwart members there and find them very approachable and friendly.

Brooklands Trust membership of Brooklands Museum in Surrey.

I find it well worth the money - in effect its an annual entrance ticket plus a few
guests may join you.
There is a members only bar with food - especially sunday lunch.
They have the F1 on the TV when showing and a few members only talks / demos.

Last one was a fun science demo for kids / young teenagers and it was well received.
Helium bottles being fired and a cross bow vs Newton gravity laws etc
Other talks have included The Land Speed car records.

One of the big annual events is the Double Twelve - discounted tickets offered plus
you could volunteer to be part of the marshal team.

There are no downsides that I can think of - there is also a magazine that is posted
out - a good read.
I hope that helps.

Brooklands is in the middle of Surrey. Home of the well-heeled toffee nose sorts. What do you expect?

I can thoroughly recommend membership .
I've been a member for several years and am in fact a volunteer marshal.
The £40 or so membership gives you entrance to every event albeit some , but few require a small additional fee. You only have to go to four events to get your money back!!.
Ok I might be biased but I've never experienced any " toffee nose" aspects .
Everyone joins in at events and many times people have said to me how much more friendly the place is especially compared with other places where large amours of money is required to be a member for two or three events a year?.
2014 has a very full calendar of events and there is something for everyone and the catering is good and affordable .
I wouldn't be involved if it wasn't friendly And " advance ticket only" !!!?
