A good sat-nav that tells you where the speed cameras are is better. Even better than that, don't speed past the cameras. That's quite easy to do and pretty fool-proof wink

It picks them up as you approach them provided you've got it pointed out of the front windscreen.

I've just got a free SatNav on my phone (NavFree) and the speed camera location on that seem pretty accurate.

How many accidents are they hoping to save with these cameras? I bet there's been not one accident there caused by someone travelling over 70mph. If and when they are switched on the waves of cash pouring in will be an absolute disgrace.

Meantime you get bunching, undertaking, delays caused by a string of complete imbeciles sitting for miles in lane 3 of 4 turning our wonderful motorway into a two laner.

really? I can't think of many situations where a radar detector would be of less use .. you already know where the cameras are, so you can either keep slowing down and speeding up or stick to the speed limit. A radar detector constantly bleeping at you isn't going to help any
IMO wink

Mine appears to pick up both sides, just as it would pick up a rear-facing Gatso as I'm driving towards it. If they're on both sides, I get the number 2 pop up in the "threat counter", if they're only on one then I just get the number 1. My detector has both front and rear facing sensors though, which other models often don't have.

Most of the gantrees are either dummy units or switched off, so you can speed through the ones that aren't active and back off as soon as the radar detector starts beeping (or in my case flashing, as I turn off the beeps). I could of course memorise which ones are active, but I'd be concerned in case they decided to switch different ones on at different times.

I've used it for a couple of years now on lots of managed motorways and I've never had any problems. That said , I don't take the piss: I've seen some people going under gantries displaying 40 (albeit for no apparent reason) at 100+ and that's just asking for trouble, even if you're fairly sure they're not active.
