Pub Restaurant around Windsor
Discussion
I've got some US friends arriving on the 10th on their way back from a holiday in Germany. Looking for a decent pub/restaurant to take them to in the evening for a nice meal.
Looking for something around the Windsor area as they are staying around Heathrow
Thoughts at the moment
Bel and the Dragon Windsor
Royal Oak Paley Street
House on the Bridge Eton
Hinds Head Bray
Thanks

Have you tried The River Side Brasserie in Bray?

Weekends only for the Riverside in Winter, so if it's night of the 10th it's a no go.
Personally I'd do the Hinds Head, especially if they are likely to have heard of Fat Duck/Heston, they'll probably quite like eating in "his pub", and get to see the FD to boot. The Crown also his and pretty nice, slightly down the food scale but depends what you are looking for.
Royal Oak very nice food, owned by Parky's son and they recently took over the Belgian Arms in Holyport. Belgian quite nice too, but not sure I'd recommend it in a straight fight with the others listed here.

And there, my friend, you just about summed up what's wrong with these bloody Gastro-pubs. The celebrities buy them all up and install a "so-called" 5 star chef and Bobs-your-bloody-uncle another village pub is gone. The Belgian Arms was one of my favourite pubs for a pint and bit of "pub grub" now it's part of Parkie's empire and as for Bray; not content with the Fat Duck (formerly the Bell Ringers) & The Hinds Head he's turned The Crown into a restaurant (despite protestations that it's still a pub). If the celebrity millionaires carry on at this rate there'll be nowhere left just to go for a beer soon Personally I'd do the Hinds Head, especially if they are likely to have heard of Fat Duck/Heston, they'll probably quite like eating in "his pub", and get to see the FD to boot. - think the Crown is still pubby enough to pull off being just a pub, last time we ate there plenty of people just in for a drink.
Maybe it's changed... Shortly after he acquired it we decided to give it a try for Sunday lunch, especially as we used to drink in there a lot under the previous ownership. Strolled in at 1pm and it was near deserted so I told Denise to chose a table while I got some drinks. After pulling a pint of bitter and pouring wine chap asked if we were eating and had we booked? To which I said yes and no. He then went on to explain they were fully booked! Now I didn't realise village pubs fully booked up for Sunday lunch And... given they've got a couple of eating areas and a separate room they could take bookings for the those and leave the bars for general customers. I guess that's just the Heston way Or as I say perhaps it's changed. In the old days I used to like the mussels and chips and a pint.
