Dear all, girlfriend was hit (in car) last night by a young man in a dark grey mk5 golf last night who spun round and fled the scene, leaving her alone and smashed up at 10pm.

Im not thrilled so if any PHers can keep an eye out for an 08 plate mk5 golf grey with significant front end damage, please let me know as I would like to have a brief chat with him about his conduct and return his VW badge to him.

What a wker.

Hope she is OK, make sure she doesnt have any whiplash. Ive had two crashes on my roadbike and still have issues from whiplash a year on.

Worth getting it all checked out.

Must be worth a trawl of local car bodyshops in a day or two...

Hope she's ok? Have you alerted the police and your insurance co?

Yeah she'll live, pretty sore, stiff and upset but ambulance and GP have cleared her. She doesn't care about the car, just really upset someone would do that to a lone young woman at night.

Police attended and the other party is being pursued for careless or possibly dangerous driving and failing to stop/report an accident.

Unfortunately a dark grey golf in Oxford driven by an Asian yoof doesn't really narrow it down much.

Frustration is that without their details the insurer will claim from her policy, excess to pay, loss of NCD, premium hike and no courtesy car. Motor Insurance Bureau fund only covers for loss against uninsured drivers not unidentified drivers.

As the traffic officer said, why spend £2k a year insuring your golf when you only get fined £250 if you get caught without insurance?
