That's the road going from Shinfield Road around the Reading side of the Uni.
Some numpty contractor has exposed all the ironworks (manholes etc. in the middle of the road) presumably prior to re-surfacing, leaving gaps 10 -20 cms all round them.
Obviously they didn't finish the job before the weekend.
Their "answer"? - leave traffic cones in the middle of the road - no warning signs as you enter the road at either end, warning signs attached to lamposts at the back of the pavement which even pedestrians would miss and no other warning signs.
An accident or accidents waiting to happen.....
Whilst no fan of "Elf and Safety" at least give motorists a fighting chance....
Rant over.
Be careful out there.
Cheers, Pewe

Is it worth reporting to the Council's Highways department to send someone out to assess the situation and get the contractor, or whoever employed them (the Council?!), to temporarily sort it?
