Looking at moving from Manchester to Woking or Surrounding areas. First I travel from Manchester to Woking every Saturday evening to be with my girlfriend of 2 years. I'm 23 and a Retail Supervisor, we're looking at taking the plunge and living together. Unfortunately as we both live with parents we are unaware of the average cost of living (in Woking).

We do want somewhere in Woking but would consider something closer to her work place (Weybridge)
If it helps we have on average a combined wage of £2,100pcm and looking at a rented flat of about £800pcm my question is, is this a substantial amount of money to live off?
We don't smoke or drink, we do like to eat out and we have 1 car in the household. We are looking at something fairly decent to rent but only 1 bed, necessities would only really include broadband and tv license.

Being in Manchester were the cost of living is lower it would be interesting and a pleasure if anybody out there can guide us or give a break down of the cost.

If any more information is required I will be happy to respond, and thank you.

Is your combined wage before or after tax? You can get a good feel for rental prices online and the local council website will tell you the council tax brackets. After that you have the usual utilities, food costs etc. Yiu can guesstimate those from where you luive currently.

Property Prices and Commuting costs aside, is there really a great difference in the 'Cost of Living' across the country?

That's what I'm asking, sorry if my point didn't come across that way. We both live with parents at the current moment, so water bills, electric, gas etc aren't a regular bill for us. I want to know if our combined wage would support us.

Our combined wage is after tax, we have had a look online at rental properties. As I quoted above we live with parents so food, and all other utility bills we don't pay. I just want to get a feel and a rough estimate of the bills and how much they would 'roughly' come to.

Thanks for your kind reply (:

Woking is expensive because of the main line train station to London.

I moved from Oldham to knaphill in 2001, I lived in Woking for a few years and am now in farnborough. The differences in the cost of living are minimal and the employment opportunities significantly better.

I have a larger more valuable house than my parents, and my council tax is less...
