Decent windscreen fitter/replacer in the TV&S area
Discussion
Had this happen to my 205 GTI today
Looking to get it replaced, but currently weighing up going via the insurer, paying the excess, but then no doubt having them send out Autoglass to cause more damage to the car than there is on the screen
I've used National Windscreens (Aldershot) a few times before on previous cars with no problems (albeit newer cars) & they can also supply me with a new o.e spec screen for a decent price, however I thought i'd ask on here if anyone can recommend (or has used) a specific company, say a classic car restorer, bodyshop, etc, who've replaced / fitted a screen on their car to a high standard, that I might be able to get a quote from to do the work if I source the screen
I know it's only a £2.5k valued 205 GTI, but part of the screen replacement involves removing then reusing the original seal as they are now NLA & I just know that Autoglass will probably damage it & leave me even more cheesed off than I am already So i'd rather pay a bit more & get the job done right 1st time

Spoke to insurers today & it turns out "Highway Glasscare" is basically just Autoglass However, they're happy for me to use a place of my own choice but obviously will only pay the first £100 of any work, but hey if it means getting it done right so be it I could take the risk with Autoglass and only pay the £75 excess, but having seen the results of some of their "high quality" work in the past on other cars, that's what puts me off wanting to risk my Pug with them
Put some black tape over the inside of the screen today just incase any local little bds try and fiddle with it while it's up the drive
@ Glassman - just noticed you cover St Albans - that's normally where my cars go to be worked on at my friends garage, but I don't think I should risk driving it another 40 odd miles to get it there for you to do as the long crack was already snaking further up the screen on the drive from Windsor
@ Norman & e600 - thanks for that suggestion - not a great distance away from where I am so not too far a drive to leave it with them I guess Will give them a call after the Bank Holiday weekend & get a quote for supply & fit

I wouldn't worry too much about driving it TBH; this kind of damage happens all the time and people still drive home Put some black tape over the inside of the screen today just incase any local little bds try and fiddle with it while it's up the drive

Highway will allow third party billing via the Belron-owned Glasscare (Belron also has Autoglass and the largest aftermarket automotive glass distribution in the UK under its umbrella).
Unless it says otherwise (on your policy) the £100 capping is rubbish. Besides, if you can get it to Snorbans, you'll get looked after and Belron need not profit from this one and your insurance claim record can stay clean.
Note to self - if this ever happens again - don't leave the car parked in direct sunlight for the last few days as the heat appears to have allowed the cracks to feather further across the screen in 2 places
Car looks very fetching with some black tape over the inside & outside of the screen to prevent any water ingress when the rain comes.
Also got it booked in with Old School for Thursday AM although the weather doesn't look too good so hopefully the rain will hold off as I don't fancy using the wipers
Old School quoted a great price for supply & fit so will just be going direct to them & not even bothering with the insurers as the price for the work wasn't a great deal more than what i'd be paying as the excess anyway
