I just picked up a car that came with winter tyres already fitted; I'm looking to swap them off for regular rubber, and can get Toyo Proxes for a decent discount through the GRRC. They will deliver to a tyre shop and all I need them to do is take the existing tyres off and chuck them in the boot, then fit the new ones.

I've been quoted £75 from one place to do this, which seems a tad steep - can anyone recommend a fitter in the Reading surrounds that would do a good job but not have me hanging about for hours or spending £20 a corner?

cheers

Event Tyres?

Might be a little more expensive to buy (due to your discount - their prices are pretty decent) but they bring them to you, and fit them for you.

Quite a bit more expensive, actually - I can get the Proxes for about £30 less than the best price I've seen to supply & fit, so I figured somewhere nearby might fit them for £10 a pop...

Try Monty's. They are mobile and you can negotiate with them.

I use ALS in Bagshot. Charged me £10 cash per corner.
Their prices supplied and fitted might be worth looking at. I can never find cheaper.

On the mytyres.co.uk website, you can enter your postcode in a local tyre fitters search and it will give you a list of fitters and a map and how much they charge per wheel. The cheapest ones in the Basingstoke area seem to start at around £11 a wheel, but most places want around £15 a wheel and up.

People go to great lengths to find the best price tyres for their pride and joy and then spend ages trying to find the cheapest place to have them fitted, all the pro's have to spend lots of money on the right equipment to fit some of these very low profile/run flat tyres so the shops doing this for £10.00 a corner and sticking it straight in the pocket are; 1. nicking from the boss. 2. defrauding the tax man by taking cash.

What happens IF they damaged one of your wheels..............????

I own a very successful tyre shop and IF any of my fitters did this it would be straight down the road. Pay fair money to have the job done with an invoice and then you have some comeback.

The right tackle costs big money which has to come back in or you won't be here next year.

Most important thing is to support your local dealers, build a relationship and then if you get in bother they should be able to help you.

Ewan, would you mind sending a pm please with the details of the GRRC offer? I am a member of the club, but this offer escaped me. Thanks.

Thanks all for the advice. The GRRC offer is detailed here - http://www.goodwood.co.uk/downloads/GRRC-docs/GRRC... I contacted ALS Tyres and their price to supply and fit was only £15 a corner more than the base GRRC price, so I figure I'll just order from there and save myself the hassle of ordering from one and arranging delivery to and fitting at another.

cheers

These guys are reasonable, and you will find it hard to better the price of tyres, can be a lengthy wait as they are very busy.
