There are a few nice places down by the river, is that close enough to the station for you? It's about 4 or 5 minutes' walk away. There's also an Italian place (Dolce Vita, I think it's called) up in the Kings Walk, that's a bit closer and very nice too.

Las Iguanas does good food, but it tends to be very busy in there. The Cote Brasserie is very good, as is the Miller and Carter steak place a couple of doors down.

For a more formal business meeting, I'd probably choose the Brasserie, with Miller and Carter a close second.

For a less formal meeting, probably still Miller and Carter. It's nice without being too posh and intimidating.

There are loads of other restaurants in that vicinity, too. I haven't tried most of them yet, but I'm getting to them all in turn. hehe There's a Jamie's Italian as well if any of your colleagues are impressed by that kind of thing, but it's always packed with kids and the tables are quite close together.

All the Oracle restaurants are here:

And the Kings Walk ones are here, but I've probably missed some out because I just did a quick search:

I went to Dolce Vita with the Mrs a couple of weekends ago for the first time. It won't be the last time. The food was excellent and the service was very good. Average prices (about what you'd expect).

Depends on your budget I guess but I'd have thought the London Street Brasserie should suffice. There's also The Forbury if you fancy something a little more up market

Thanks Guys, will look into all of these and get one booked. Miller and Carter could be a winner.

Thanks

I'd not spend my own money again in London Street, it's just not good enough for the money food wise.

Cote does excellent food and the service has always been great which is a few doors up from miller and carter etc.
Miller and Carter is also good.

Dolce Vita is excellent.

If it's for a business meeting and you're both starting at the station, heading to The Forbury Hotel or to Forburys across the courtyard from the hotel could both be good choices. There is also Malmaison which does good food and the bar is okay, but I've been told others think it's very 'dark' in the bar / restaurant.

The Bell and Dragon could be worth a look.

The delightfully sounding Gasworks Road, not far to walk either

We ate there recently before going to an engagement party at the Forbury wink and really rated it for quality and value

Malmaison is opposite the station. Decent. Forbury's is very good too.

Vowed not to go back to Miller and Carter. Ate in their a few weeks ago. Food was decent. However, I was walking past a couple of weeks ago and thought I'd pop in for a beer and perhaps a snack. They've got a nice bar area in there, but the waiter turned me away in a rude manner and said 'food only'. I explained I might eat and he refused to serve me again.

With an attitude like he his and in this economic climate where businesses would be grateful for my custom I really hope they struggle.

Absolutely second this - Forbury especially is excellent and have an very good lunchtime "Market Menu". Earlier poor comment about London Street Brasserie I suspect got them on a bad day - Food is usually excellent and again a decent lunchtime menu.

Yep, I think I've been there maybe 3 or 4 times and other than some of the wine and maybe one of the main courses I really haven't been impressed vs. the amount that I've paid. I realize I'm in the minority here, I just don't see what the big deal is when it's compared to a number of the other choices in Reading.

Those suggesting the Forbury or Forbury's you may want to be careful. I've seen people walk into The Forbury Hotel thinking they'd booked a table there and then looked rather shocked when they've been asked if in fact they had booked at Forbury's across the square.

Hotel: http://www.theforburyhotel.co.uk/
Restaurant on opposite side of square: http://www.forburys.co.uk/

Both have been excellent and the 3 course menu with wine at Forburys was really rather good.
