Someone trying to jump off Handy Cross Bridge above the motorway. Traffic is gridlocked.

Just driven back from High Wyc, - Sands, Marlow, White Waltham - took 70 mins. Traffic is gridlocked all over, several associated incidents with the heavy traffic on minor roads.

Someone hung themself from the bridge over the M40 apparently.

Took me over an hour for a 10 minute journey......

Why can't they just do it somewhere quiet or not around rush hour. Just a thought.

I had a great journey, I had to go from High Wycombe to Gerrards Cross at ~15:30 yesterday and as I joined the M40 from Handycross I was the only car on the motorway until the next junction. Nice (high) cruising speed.

"Thames Valley Police has had to close part of the M40 due to a fear for a man’s welfare." - what about the welfare of the thousands (if not tens of thousands) of travellers caught up in this. The odds on there being a life-threatening event compounded elsewhere are, I would have thought, pretty high. Especially as Wycombe General had severe jams outside it.

6 hours or so to re-open vital travel arteries - not good enough. The police need to re-evaluate how they handle this sort of thing.

I wasn't caught up, it didn't effect me - this isn't a selfish rant.

Would love to hear what you suggest, unfortunately this is one of those situations where it takes as long as it takes to talk the person around. Preservation of life is still priority over anything else.

Reminds of a scene in lethal weapon where he says "do you Really want to jump, then lets jump!!" Need some of those air bags in the UK fire service.

You've totally avoided my point - what about all the people stuck in the traffic. Were the police 100% certain that no one trying to reach hospital were inconvenienced? This police action had major consequences.

The point precisely, late getting home / to hospital but still alive. Yes it did have major consequences and ultimately a successful outcome, no-one died.

If you work at the hospital then I apologise, but how do you know no one died as a consequence of one inconsiderate censored
To be totally honest if he wanted to top himself then either do it or let the police shoot him and save the tax payer a small fortune.

Simon, the posts on this thread are becoming very unpleasant. When people act like this they are not being inconsiderate; they are thinking in a way that is irrational from our viewpoint.

Fortunately it is also not normal in our society to give the police carte blanche to shoot those whom we classify as acting abnormally. I put it to you that enjoying an open-topped CanAm would most certainly be classified as abnormal by a large swathe of our society, and track days should not be a once in a lifetime experience.

This argument could be made against any person committing a crime, call it inconsiderate, irrational or just not normal.
The point I was trying to make was regarding the potential loss of life due to this irrational person blocking most of the roads leading to a major hospital. Hypothetically, if someone had lost their life because they couldn't be treated in time, would said irrational person be up on a man slaughter charge?

As for the CanAm, order me up some decent weather and I'll be out to play (hopefully on uncongested roads).
