To the BiB. What happened with all these RPU mergers that were in the press (like Thames Valley & Hampshire). Did they actually work?
I ask as I see out and about Thames Valley catching baddies in V70’s but Hampshire in 530’s, which is where I thought a bit of standardisation could save a few quid. I assume also means shutting RPU bases (I think our local one for NE Hants was Farnborough, but has now / will change to Whitchurch which is miles away). Haven’t seen Thames Valley cars in Hants yet either…

Hampshire have merged with Thames Valley. Surrey is still in with Sussex, but not a complete merger due to the way the different RPU's work and their different focus (it will happen eventually, but a lot of things to sort out)
Hants aren't going to get rid of their 530's and start buying Volvo (same the other way for TVP) until the cars up due for replacement.
They will be saving money in other areas (training etc)
There's a lot more to it than just savings on cars. I have heard that Officers in TVP aren't too impressed as it now means further to travel to do courses (I'm sure that will be the same with every force that does a merger)
