Evening all,

Was driving through Bracknell today (coming from Bagshot) and when I arrived at the Sainsburys/Hilton roundabout, on the other side of the road there were 2 speed cameras one facing with the traffic like a conventional camera and the other facing towards the traffic. Both were all grey in colour, no yellow back or anything.

Any ideas what kind of cameras these are?

Thought they might be traffic light cameras i.e. If you jump the red light.

That's what I thought, do they need images of the driver now as well as that's what I'm assuming the camera pointing towards the traffic is for.

Solely for jumping red lights. A friend only told me last week that it went off because a women didnt stop in time and went over the stop line. She even tried backing up apparently.

Oops, wonder if she'll be getting a fine or not. Would the cameras work for both sides of the road or just the one side?

No, for some reason they are only for that side of the road.

Maybe there has been more accidents on that side of the road then?

Been there for over 2 years if its the ones I think your referring to.
Large Camera with additional box on seperate pole.

FYI The Lightwater Bypass has some development cameras which have been changed recenty.
Its testing ground I believe and has been for a considerable time.

Possibly, I've never heard of any major accidents up at those lights because of someone jumping the lights. I live across the dual carriage opposite from the BP station, just 150 meters or so down from the lights.

They were put there to catch people ignoring the no right turn when coming across the junction from the Hilton and heading south towards Bagshot. it was (is) common for people to ignore the no right turn directly onto the A322 to avoid an extra stop at the lights further round

That reason makes sense, not sure they are pointing quite right to catch those people though. Dont know of anyone that done it and then been caught.

I agree, i don't think they would catch you doing that, plus could anyone tell me why turning right is a bad thing anyway ? I can't see anything wrong with it. Unless it is incase someone gets confused and turns right into the oncoming traffic.

Still there north bound carriageway at Gordon's Boys School roundabout. One camera on latticework pole. Never seen one like that before. Usually stopping at that point smile
Is there another one hidden elsewhere?

One at start of carraigeway at M3 R/O on lattice pole
The other is just before the end which you spotted.
Some time ago someone had all the hardware away from the control cabinet
which sits back off the road, there not fitted with steel straps and padlocks.

They are permantly powered from mains and have BT o/h lines connected at both ends.
I have good info thats its a testing gound for new systems and equipment - now where is my hunting rifle smile

Yep spotted that now too. Perhaps it will be like the Top Gear timing board. I'm sure they will let us know who has the best time from one end to the other smile
Who wants to test it out???
