Hi All,

Considering a move to here from Guildford as there are some nice houses for sensible money (vs. Guildford at least) whilst still being London accessible for work. Anything I need to know about the area? It's always seemed pleasant when driving through - have some property viewings this weekend, any pointers appreciated!

Cheers

Kris

We used to live there a few years ago (Dettingen Park)

From memory when they got plaining to build the development they were only allowed to have 1.4 cars per household, on some parts of the estate this is a problem. We had a house with 3 parking spots and a garage so we were ok but from memory the estate committee were trying to get a company in to issue parking tickets/ clamping.

You will have to pay a Management Fee for up keep to the estate.

One side of the estate is affordable housing (not necessarily a problem) its on the side near the Spar (shop) I only had the dust caps nicked off the cerb once

No commercial vehicles to be parked anywhere on the estate, even on your own drive (i had a crapy letter put through my door from the estate committee for taking a transit home and parking it on my drive so I didn't wake the neighbours up when I had to leave early in the morning)

Make sure you have a good read of the deeds, I think they are leasehold as well, luckily we only rented.

PS this was five years ago so things might be a bit different now

Dave, many thanks for the info - very much appreciated! No problem with a mix of housing, I'll be sure to look into the deeds in detail. thumbup Im looking at houses with plenty of off street parking so I should be ok.

Edited to add, did you like living there ?

Its not a bad place to live but to be honest I wouldn't go back.

One thing to have a quick look at is this, which I forgot to add to my first post.

Dettingen Park is right in the middle of it.

One of my mums friends used to live on Dettingen Park about 2 years ago and was near to the affordable housing side.

She suffered badly from the issue of the 1.5 cars per house thing as she only had one car, so her neighbour decided to utilise her additional space and soon there were 4 cars split between the mother, part time father & 2 children aged 17 & 19 who regularly parked their cars in their neighbours spots and in one case she got back from a 2 week holiday and found they had parked a car up her drive.

Not saying that could happen to you, but i'd suggest visiting the part of the estate you're thinking of moving to, and see what the parking is like in the evening/weekend, especially if it's near the affordable housing side.

Brilliant info. Thank you! Will add some contrast to the shiny house details I have.
