Help needed - Wood lathe??

Does anyone have or have access to a wood lathe at all.

My sons school has a large row of coat peg plates but some of the peg bits have gone missing/broken its a nursery school in a community hall so gets used by many other groups besides the nursery.

So if any one has a lathe I can use to knock up some pegs so I can fix them on over the Xmas period.

Would it not be better to make them from metel/ally

Wood isn't the best for that use
