Accident on the M3 this morning between junctions 3 and 2 London bound, near junction 2. Looked like there was going to be a bit of a queue shortly after I went past in the other direction. Police were on their way to the scene.

Nasty one on Friday too, at least two fire engines and 3-4 police cars in attendance.

And what do the Highways Agency plan to do with this stretch of motorway that already experiences an abnormal amount of accidents and NEEDS an area to pull vehicles off to whilst waiting recovery; let alone normal breakdowns?

Oh yes in their wisdom they are planning to scrap the hard shoulder and make the stretch between 2 - 4a FOUR lanes!!

Am I missing something here or is that pure idiocy?

Nothing wrong with the M3 or M25 come to think of it.
It's idiots that can't control their vehicles or grasp the basics of driving.
Using clear indication and checking ones mirror before swapping lanes would help.
Far too many drivers are already in the process of swapping lanes or merging into traffic who
think that two flashes of the indicator half way through a lane change is the standard required -

This Managed Motorway scheme will be carried on 13.4 miles (21.6km) of the M3 motorway from its junction with the M25 (M25 J12) to junction 4a where it meets the A347 in Surrey.
God help us because Junction 4a is firmly in Hampshire, and is nowhere near the A347 which goes from Bournemouth to Ferndown.

M3 Surrey, northbound between A322 Bagshot [M3 junction 3] and M25 [M3 junction 2]
M3 Surrey - M3 partially blocked and slow traffic London-bound between J3, A322 (Bagshot) and J2 M25, because of a multi-vehicle accident. Matrix sign set to 50 mph.

Thanks, I should be going up the M3 to Twickers later this evening, so I'll double check to make sure it's clear.

Hope everyone is ok.

What can we do to improve road safety on this stretch of motorway?

The authorities aren't doing it; so what can we do?

Leave a bit more space, be a bit more aware -- but to me it's all common sense stuff. If you're not leaving enough room in the first place, or paying enough attention to your surroundings and how soon the M25 exit is coming up, then you're not going to be smart enough to make more allowances in that area.

don't think it's as simple as that .. there's something unnatural about the number of accidents on this stretch.. I think we're going to have to sacrifice a goat or something

Sacrifice a transport minister. They're generally worth 10 goats.

I may have made that up.

It was only a single vehicle, thankfully only minor injury. We got it upright and moved as soon as we could. biggrin
