A33 M4 J11 to Hook
Discussion
Even better... take the B3349 through Risely, Heckfield and then onto Hook. A much better road
I haven't seen any scameras on the A33 but then I don't use it very regularly. I would suspect as it's a fairly major route, much of it 50mph instead of 60 then it would be a regular road for them to try to catch people.

Scamera sometimes sits outside the Wellington arms hotel (40 mph ?)and police traffic car sometimes sits on the grass verge southbound just before the big roundabout at Sherfield on Loddon.
Better to take the direct route as said , turn left at the Wellington memorial then right at the next roundabout, nice road.;)

As above - the B3349 is far better and direct, although now sadly saddled with a 50 limit. Never seen a camera, but a policeman does live on the road, his car is often outside the house! The B3349 means avoiding Basingstoke and the M3 junction
In fact, in days of old the B3349 even had a review as a great road on PH - take it South of Hook towards Alton too, it gets even better...
The A33 has 50 limits and even a sodding 40 limit - camera vans are infrequent but they park between the Heckfield turn off and the Wellington Arms. I've seen one down by Sherfield too, on the bridge over the Loddon. The road is busy and everyone sticks to the limts in boring convoys. Avoid.
Edited to add - resist the urge to hammer it on the d/c south of M4 jc11 - BiB have their road policing base at jc11

Except inside the new 40mph limit, I've never resisted that urge. Have I just been lucky?Took the A33 to work this morning, 1st time in a while... had to do a double take when I saw the sign advertising the "Giant Walk through Inflatable Colon" that was going to be on display somewhere (sorry did not see where) just figured, that was 5 words I never thought I would see strung together!
Had a good run back along the B3349 on the bike today - cracking bit of road shame its not longer. Unfortunatly got stuck behind a lorry for a while, and had a hairy moment at the 20mph courner - riding on the rim has a new meaning to it now! Didnt see any scameras along the way (hopefully they didn't see me! )

I use the B3349 every day to commute from Reading to Hook and it is a great road and always flowing which is good, but you do have to watch out for the 20mph corner on the approach into Hook, seen many cars with sat navs who must be going round it for the first time take it too quick and struggle! Also, just before the corner there is a farm on the left and the farmer must be a keen petrol head as i am sure he has 3 porsches, also seen a monaro and a few other marques on the drive!Puggit said:

Indeed! I wrote a review on the B3349 which still shows on my profile but the link doesn't work. What happended to the reviews section? Am I out of the loop here? RichardR said:

The road was completely re-tarmacced and a 50 limit was stamped on the road.
I think I would've preferred the old road surface with the old speed limit! The NSL seems to be close to extinction on anything other than motorways and dual-carriageways nowadays thanks to numerous rounds of apparently arbitrary cuts in speed limits.
Yet the road through Farley Hill is still NSL (apart from the part-time speed restriction past the school). I've never understood why this road would be NSL as there is a school as well as quite a few houses along that road and it's pretty hard to drive through there at 60 even if you wanted to! I'm amazed that the locals haven't demanded that it be reduced to 40 or less!

The powers that be have probably concentrated their draconian efforts on the roads where it's generally quite safe to travel at 60 and left the NSL on the roads where it's unachievable! Gassing Station | Thames Valley & Surrey | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
