Has anyone ever done this?

Going to Boston on 12th April and would like to rent a car to drive to Canada. I have found the car on Avis..but not sure if you can drive over the border with being a UK citizen?

Thanks.

Best give them a call and speak to someone in person as when I tried a while ago they were not too enthralled with this. I recall I was renting from Hertz at the time. Things could have moved on now though

Did it with no issues when hiring a Chevy Equinox from Budget in Manhattan.

I simply told them when I collected it that I'd be heading into Canada, they gave me a form letter stating that I was allowed to leave the US and away I went.

No extra charge and no eyebrows raised.

Renting in Los Angeles and driving into Mexico however........ lol

OK, cheers.

I'll just give them a call to confirm before booking.

One thing to bear in mind.... you will attract interest at American Immigration when coming back into the US

I got a harder time from the border guards there than I ever have when flying into the US
A serious number of questions regarding what I was doing, where I was going etc etc

What he said. All the Canadian registered cars & US citizens were being waved through and we got taken out of the line and sent to the INS counter to produce our paperwork. So ... don't forget to take your passport!
