This doesnt cover emissions, the system in the car is not OBDII compliant, you might be able to fit one (retuned) from another nissan vehicle.

Edit: Im going to warn you that the company that did all the testing to get these cars imported went out of business due to lawsuits because some of the vehicles had to be destroyed because they didnt actually pass safety standards to enter the country. All of the original testing was done on R33 skylines and the vehicles that did not pass were R32 and R34 skylines. After the vehicles didnt pass the owners took out the business.

Just a little food for thought here for you. In the US the emissions and safety standards are the same for every state (federal mandated except California has raised emission standards). The government lets the states determine how they are going to enforce it. For a new import the federal government will check the car before they allow it to be imported on a permanent basis. If it passes the government inspection it should pass the state inspection. Things that you will need to register the vehicle with the state are some federal paperwork, proof of ownership, a state safety inspection, proof of a passing emissions test (Not all places in TN require this, check with the DMV for the county you will reside in), and proof of insurance (for the state of TN).

So would it be easier for me to goto the UK and buy an R33 and stay there for awhile than come back and get a temp import than at the end get it for perment?

most of the stuff you will need can be sourced from a 300 (which is very similar). You might be able to source almost all the things you need from a 300...

If you want easy, just find one (legal) inside the US and use it.
