As a public service to those PH'ers that have migrated to the US and miss pork pies, English style bacon etc I give you clicky here.

They are based in the Buffalo suburbs and do deliver to a number of states. They come highly recommended by a Welsh contact I have.

I'm currently waiting for my order to be baked and sent and I will report back when I have scoffed some pie.

Thanks for that Chris! Will be interested to hear what you think of the pies.
I've managed to track down real bacon (sold as 'Irish Bacon' at Wholefoods) but haven't been able to get a decent banger. As I'm only in MD, I'm in the 2 day shipping window...!

Thanks for that. Perhaps I might be able to stop smuggling bacon into the USA for my Mum.

Any tips here on stopping the hotels cremating bacon? They seem to cook it to death which means it has no flavour! They look at you as if you've just dropped off another planet when you ask for it lightly done!

So here is the first update.

When I ordered I foolishly forgot to include the black pudding. I didn't want to pay shipping as well on that so did not do a new internet order but just gave them a call to ask to add to the submitted order. I left an answer phone message and got a call back within 15 mins and it was no problem adjusting the order, so score one for good customer service.

The order was cooked and delivered absolutely bang on time with me receiving a UPS tracking number upon shipping. The order was very well packaged in it's own polystyrene box complete with reuseable freezer bags and any spare space stuffed with paper. This meant despite being on a 2 days delivery some of the freezer bags were still frozen when they got to me and the food was chilled.

Onto the food. I've ordered a mix of bacon, black pudding, sausages and pork pies. So far we have only tried two of the pies. Last night we broke out a Melton Mobray stle pie and the Ploughmans style

As you can see in the picture below the Ploughmans has a layer of cheddar running through it and Branston on top. Wierd but the truth will be in the taste

Tasting
The Mowbray was quite a traditional type pie, Lovely porky flavour and quite a chunky cut to the meat. The jelly was light but tasty and with a little English mustard went down beautifully
The Ploughmans was really good. The combination despite at first sounding a bit strange really works. It was our favourite of last night

Note as this was the first order I ordered the smaller size pies on offer. I also have one of their Stilton pies to go at later.

I'll update again when we have had the full English this weekend but the bacon sure looks tasty smile

Now for feedback on the bacon, sausages and black pudding smile Fabulous is the appropriate word. The bacon is wet cured rather than dry cure but is still very very good. Nice and thick cut. We opened the cumberland sausages this time and they were excellent. Full of flavour and nice and herby. I know the shape is not full traditional but the taste was wonderful. Finally the black pudding continued the high standard already set.

Just to tempt you, here is our version of Brunch

It seems I was not so lucky.
I just got a couple of their larger pork pies from an English store in Haddonfield NJ. Really disapointed, one bite and I tossed it.
It did not look like the picture on the website, the pastry was very thin, dry and burnt.
The flavour of the pastry was burnt too.
I've cooked hot fat pastry, it's not easy to burn it because of its oil content.
It's possible that as it was a "yorkshire pork pie" then it is supposed to have thin pastry and be quite spicy. It seemed to me to be made with paprika !
The jelly was, I'm quite sure, chemical and not natural.
It is possible it may have suffered from being frozen.

On the bright side, I had an excellent Fish & Chip lunch.

Second pie is good confused
Not burntsmile
The meat is not so red as the first one, regular pork pie colour and taste.

First one must have been intended for a Mexican Anglophyle.
They did say they were individually made.

Jeff, sorry to hear your pies were a bit mixed. We thawed out our second set yesterday and on the upside they were as scrummy as the first but on the downside I'm now pieless frown
