NASCAR anyone?

I've been to loads of races (mainly at Daytona) but also Talladega, Indy and Bristol.
I didn't go last night, because the weather was crappy and I've lost count of the times I've been at DIS enduring rain-delayed Pepsi 400's.
End of last nights race was pretty spectacular though...

I'm assuming that the August race at Pocono makes most sense for you. I might do the Brickyard race this year if my work schedule permits (work HQ is in Indianapolis). I'd really like to go back to Bristol, but this is the only venue where it's still difficult to get tickets these days. There were more than 50,000 empty seats at Daytona last night, according to the local news.

Eric - Pocono is a breeze from CT - an easy drive. Not sure where Boozy is in Joizy - but he's not far either. Sadly, I'm something like 1400 miles south, so would be a plane-ride for me.
This is only my opinion - and I haven't visited Pocono Raceway, but Indianapolis has a really strong atmosphere about the place and although it's not a particularly 'aggressive' track, it's fast on the long straights (the Brickyard is not an oval in the same sense as Pocono, Daytona or Talladega)and 'push-generating' in the turns.
There's always been a big party for the Brickyard 400 - the night before the race in the Coke Lot is a bit bonkers.

I just learned that I've got to work in Europe week of July 26th which rules me out for the Brickyard race on 25th. Pocono is the weekend after and one day after I get home, so divorce proceedings could be initiated if I did that one too.
Here's a thought though. The Watkins Glen race on August 8th is close for both of you and easy for me to fly into (Rochester NY). It is a fantastic track - but it is a road course, not an oval, so somewhat less traditional - and the teams often field 'ringers' from outside of NASCAR, who are more used to executing right turns than the good ol' boys.
Failing that, may I suggest something a little further down the line, but also something we could plan a little more effectively - and add a social element.
Charlotte NC is the home of NASCAR - the race on Oct 16th is a Saturday, meaning we wouldn't have a death-ride home for work the next day - and it's a night race, which really adds another dimension.
Charlotte is kind of equidistant to all of us and is a fun, frindly town.
The autumn races are also less susceptible to rain-offs.
Just a thought - and don't let my work schedule stop you guys from going for it - but it'd be great to put some faces to names.
