Talking yesterday with a mate and the idea of going to Pebble Beach in August came up, to be honest there aren’t exactly that many people in rural Suffolk to ask!

The main event seems to be on the Sunday with a number of other events in the days preceding, wondered what’s best to consider?

Anyway any input would be gratefully received so I can arrange some flights

This site is quite useful - http://www.montereycarweek.com/

I am heading over and am taking in the Motorsports Reunion too.

Accommodation is pricey though.

Don't tease me....I was chatting to a friend in Colchester area planning our car show agenda for 2010 / 2011 and Pebble beach is right up there with Villa D'Este and one or two of the big German shows.

Rob - anywhere close to PB is going to be pricey, so you may wish to consider slightly north or south to reduce costs (assuming you are planning to drive there/back). I lived in San Francisco for 6 yrs and used to drive regularly from there to play a golf course next door to Pebble - took about 1hr 30/ 1hr 45, but you could equally stay in Santa Cruz/Capitola and still be relatively close by.

Well I certainly still fancy going on this one and will probably aim to leave the UK on the Wednesday and fly back on the Monday if that sounds practical?

With car hire an absolute necessity I’d imagine the best thing to do would be to stay and hour or so away and drive in?

Wednesday night a hotel near the airport and collect a hire car on the Thursday morning from the hotel, I’m thinking something suitable such as a Challenger?

Thursday drive out to the coast but sill far enough away to not get to drawn in to the Pebble Beach pricing structure?

Friday, do not a lot

Saturday there something worth looking at car wise at Pebble Beach so drive in and have a look
Sunday the same

Monday drive back to the airport

PS are the British safe in the US wink

My opinion on the events to attend:
Tuesday - Carmel Concours on the Avenues (free!)
Friday - Khaki's event (I believe also free)
Saturday - historic races at Laguna Seca (not too expensive)
Sunday - Pebble Beach Concours, or more historic races (concours is expen$$$ive!)

Wednesday and Thursday - Go shopping, beach, Point Lobos, Big Sur.

Top tip: Many visitors enjoy going to Roy's restaurant, located at The Inn at Spanish Bay, around 5:00 p.m. to enjoy a beer/cocktail and appetizers by one of the open fireplaces on the patio and to watch the bagpiper stroll up though the mist to play a few tunes before disappearing back into the heathers. Call the hotel for the correct times of the piper (subject to change seasonally). If you go there, don't forget to have Roy's validate your ticket so you can recover the entry fee to 17-mile drive.
