Hi all

Coming over to the states in January for one year on a travelling visa, but need somewhere to stay for 3 months for as little money as possible any ideas.

the space under bridges seems to be popular with the budget traveller...

I walked by a Student/Youth hostel in Santa Monica a couple of weeks ago.
Caught my eye how clean it looked.
Might be worth checking out if there is a network.

Who, in their right mind, would agree to this?

I don't think the O/P has thought through the implications for this for the resident. For example, do you realise that most car insurance companies ask you how many drivers are registered at your home and you policy is priced on the worst risk in the household even if you claim they won't drive your car? Given that you have an out of country licence, you're basically asking someone to increase there insurance premiums for your visit...

how did Top Gear manage to buy cars and drive them across the states? Were they registered to the US Beeb office?

Not only that, but given the OP's previous posts on this subject (in particular, the one's where he broadcasts his thoughts on flouting US immigration law) anyone stepping-up to the plate could also be accused of aiding/abetting or harboring a felon, in addition to potentially being responsible for all of his traffic violations, parking tickets etc.
I think the whole concept is somewhat ill-conceived and I said so right from the first posting in the holidays and travel thread....

The BBC subsidiary in the US will have bought, registered and insured the clunkers in the earlier episode and the Caddy and the Vette were loaned to the BBC in the second one. I think that Chrysler refused to loan them a Challenger because it was never going to compare favorably with the CTS-V or the ZR-1, so they ended-up buying that car too.
All good use of the license payers money, eh?
