My elderly mother lives in the US (in Northern PA). When she eventually shuffles off this mortal coil, there are some household effects I'd quite like to get back to the UK, mainly furniture my father made. Can anyone recommend a good company to ship this kind of thing? And are there any pitfalls I should know about? What about packing? There are 4 Windsor Chairs, for example. None of it is worth any real money - just sentimental value.

Any decent international moving company will be able to wrap, fill in the paperwork and deliver...all you pay for is the space or container on the boat, plus some man hours etc.

Bishop's Move is a pretty good player in this business as are Cadogan Tate, but they can be somewhat difficult. Pickfords are also a large international firm.

Sterling Relocation are also one to look at and their website is very informative.

Thanks for that - I shall file those names away against the evil day.

(I meant to say I wouldn't touch Pickfords with a stty stick. Virtually everything of value was stolen from my parents when they emigrated from the UK using Pickfords, and Pickfords were very little help.)
